Peamount lay down a marker
Peamount United laid down a marker for the destination of the title as they produced a dominant display to beat Wexford tonight.
After a blistering start from Peamount which produced a fifth minute goal from Sadhbh Doyle, Wexford never really recovered and their lead was never threatened. Peamount goals from Roche and a magnificent shot from McLaughlin was the icing on the cake for the hosts.
Áine O’Gorman compounded the misery as she made it four in injury time.
United have had a habit of blitzing their opponents early on in matches and tonight continued in that vein. Great work on the left wing from Roche and O'Gorman set up Sadhbh Doyle who strikes from the edge of the area for the opening goal.
Peamount dominated the early exchanges and Stephanie Roche added to her goal tally for the season on 17th minute with a thundering left-footed strike from outside the area.
Wexford responded and Ellen Molloy, who didn't have many chances, dropped deep to try to influence the game. At one stage, her majestic turn in midfield displayed her outrageous skill levels.
Moments later, Niamh Reid-Burke pinged a brilliant pass out to Roche in midfield, her cushioned header set up McLoughlin, who put Aine O'Gorman through on goal with a great pass, but she was offside.
Wexford continued to put pressure on the Peamount goal, in particular trying to utilise Watkins' pace on the right wing, which seemed to be a primary tactic for them, but with no success in the opening half.
Áine O'Gorman, who linked up well with Roche throughout the game, had a great chance one v one with the keeper, but it was deflected wide as Peamount couldn't capitalise. As the game stretched, Peamount scored their third on a breakaway.
Erin McLoughlin made it 3-0 with a magnificent strike. After dangerous run from O'Gorman, it bounced kindly for McLoughlin and she struck to make it 3-0. Doyle later hit the crossbar and Wexford had chances cleared off the line. hard work was rewarded as she pounced to make it 4-0 in injury time.
Peamount have extended their 100% start to the season and look to be the team to beat at the moment.
