Brilliant Bray upset UCD
Bray Wanderers stunned UCD to keep their promotion hopes alive thanks to a 4-0 win this evening at the Carlisle grounds thanks to goals from Darren Craven, Conor Clifford and a brace from Joe Doyle .
This win for the Seagulls means they go just two points behind UCD in the League of Ireland First Division.
The hosts dominated from start to finish, and didn’t allow the Students get into the game throughout the 90 minutes.
Gary Cronin’s side got off to an excellent start when winger Ryan Graydon burst down the right wing and found the on-rushing Craven who slotted home from inside the box after just six minutes to get his first goal for the club.
Things could’ve gone from bad to worse for UCD when Brandon Kavanagh was challenged inside the UCD box but much to the disagreement of the 100 Bray Wanderers’ fans in the ground, the referee waved the game on.
UCD’s best chance of the first half came from a cross come shot by full back Michael Gallagher but his effort went just wide of Brian Maher’s net. Bray led 1-0 going into the interval.
Bray started the second half emphatically with Graydon dribbling by Euan Weir of UCD before finding Craven again who was fouled inside the UCD box. Conor Clifford stepped up and placed the ball into the top left corner to get his second goal in two weeks.
Substitute Joe Doyle was only on the pitch a couple of minutes when Kavanagh’s through ball found the striker who calmy slotted the ball home off his left to make it 3-0 to The Seagulls. UCD struggled to get out of their half for periods of the last 30 minutes and failed to make any big chances of their own during the 90 minutes.
Bray’s Joe Doyle found himself one on one with Lorcan Healy again in the dying minutes of stoppage time. Doyle knocked the ball past the UCD goalkeeper before tapping in from close range to complete the rout. It was a great all round performance by the Wicklow men with captain Aaron Barry and Aaron Quinn defending excellently throughout the game.
