Match Report

Report: Drogheda United 1-1 UCD

Drogheda United failed to capitalise on a third minute Adam Foley strike against the Students as they could only secure a draw at home in a poor performance which sees UCD off the bottom of the table.

Both sides had efforts to win it but failed to take advantage and both sides share the points and UCD climb off the bottom of the table for the moment as they await Finn Harps to play.

Drogheda got off to the best possible start after three minutes some great play down their left hand side Darragh Markey’s cross found Adam Foley who slotted home at the back post to put the home side ahead after just three minutes.

Things could have gotten much worse for UCD as Foley again had a clever effort fizz just wide of Lorcan Healys post after 13 minutes and just a few moments later with 20 minutes on the clock Dayle Rooney struck the post. It could have been 3-0, but luckily for UCD it remained 1-0.

UCD struggled to make any attempts in the early stages and failing to make a use of any set pieces. The home side seemed to take the foot off the gas after 30 minutes and let UCD back into the match.

Tommy Lonergan was impressive throughout the opening period and on the stroke of halftime he got his reward 46 minutes gone he got on the end of a set piece and calmly slotted it into the top corner great composers and a brilliant finish 1-1 at the break.

The second half started very lively with both sides attacking trying to pin each other back. Goalscorer Tommy Lonergan came closest to scoring in the second half his headed attempt rattling the bar after 53 minutes UCD nearly taking the lead after their terrible start.

From that point on both sides pace and momentum seemed to dip and the intensity of the game fell, nether side created any major chances and a draw seemed the only outcome from that point on.

It finished 1-1 in Drogheda a result that sees UCD climb from the bottom of the table with a game more played than their closest rivals Finn Harps.
