Match Report
Roche key to Peas’ win
A Stephanie Roche brace was enough to set up Peamount United for a well deserved 3-0 victory on the road against Galway WFC.
Roche settled the sides with an easy tap in goal nine minutes in, a wonderful volley just after the hour mark showed her class and just why Peamount are table toppers.
The match was well and truly over when Aine O'Gorman broke away and slotted home bringing her tally to 11 goals for the season.
It was a blistering start to this matchup with both teams on the front foot trying to create chances.
Peamount's ability to press, and brilliant one touch passing and movement was outstanding in the opening minutes and throughout the first half.
It was through this they opened the scoring, with great play down the right wing; with a lovely ball crossed to Galway's back post with the ball breaking and finding Roche unmarked six yards out to tap it home for a lead nine minutes in.
The Peas pressure and bite in the tackle was incredible, their desire to fight for the ball and spring attacks shows why they are top of the league.
Galway spent the first half defending their half and trying to launch counter attacks, although they did defend well their long balls out from the back were failing to stick, they had more joy running the ball at speed but were often closed down by the solid Tiegan Ruddy.
Peamount's great play continued and the sides went in 1-0.
The second half saw the Westerners get into the match a bit more with a good breeze aiding their attacks they looked to be getting a grip in the game early on.
Galway failed to find the net during this period and felt the price of it.
Just after the hour mark and again great play down the wings a delightful ball found Roche who struck the ball on the volley a beautiful goal into the bottom corner now 2-0.
The Home side struggled from this point chasing the play and not getting many chances going forwards, a defensive slip in the 77th minute let O’Gorman in one-on-one with the keeper to slot home for what is her eleventh goal for this campaign.
Peamount were much the better side, their style of play and skill level a joy to watch. Galway United were unfortunately just beaten by the stronger side and can now focus ahead to their next outing hoping to learn from this loss.
