Match Report
Jack Doherty netted a second half brace to salvage a point for Cobh Ramblers, as they came from 2-0 down to finish level with ten-man Finn Harps this evening. Cobh lost ground in the title race to Galway, they had a nightmare first half as Seamas Keogh and Filip Da Silva both hit the net for the hosts with Wilson Waweru having the best of the chances for the visitors. Cobh were much the better in the second half, Doherty the main influence, he may have skied a penalty into the Finn, but his two goals were crucial to see Cobh have a point to take with them on the long road home. It was the perfect start for the hosts Caoimhin Porter crossed into the area, where Filip Da Silva did well to keep hold of possession in the area, he played a pass to Daniel Okwute whose shot was blocked but Seamas Keogh was there to strike home the rebound to put Harps ahead inside two minutes. Cobh had chances to come back into the tie, Pierce Phillips had their first with a strike from range but it trailed wide, next Breandan Frahill had a header go into the gloves of Tim Hiemer from close range. The hosts had to absorb the pressure but at the other end they would grab their second, pure pinball in the Cobh box saw Da Silva get possession and his effort managed to beat Lee Steacy and roll into the back of the net. Momentum was all with Harps, Da Silva was everywhere using his link up play he played a delicious pass for Okwute, he sent the ball across the box but Michael Harris just was unable to stretch enough to get a flick to goal. Harris almost had another chance minutes later but he was flagged offside by the linesman as Da Silva with some samba magic looked to have set him racing in on goal but he just moved behind the last man. At the other end Harps had a serious wake up call as some poor defending allowed Wilson Waweru to get in on goal but Heimer did well to save with his legs, with the sides going in at the break still on a 2-0 scoreline. Into the second half and Cobh started the better of the sides, they had a penalty awarded for handball but the ever reliant Jack Dohertry blazed the spot kick into the River Finn, but a couple of minutes later he vollied home an effort from a Dale Holland cross to get Cobh back into the game. It was a much better effort from Cobh in the second half, Cian Browne floated a perfect ball into the area for Doherty to send into the back of the ent for his second and tie the game in the 78th minute. Harps were reduced to ten men in the dying minutes as Sean O’Donnell had just come on and showed maybe some nerves and rust as he went in too eager for a tackle and as a result saw a straight red card.Doherty Brace Snatches Ramblers Point In Ballybofey
