Shels power past Treaty in Womens League
Six players were on target for Shelbourne, as they hit Treaty for a total of seven goals to go top of the league for at least a couple of hours.
A sextet of first half goals including three in the opening 10 minutes gave The Reds a much deserved win.
Emily Whelan, Saoirse Noonan (2), Jessie Stapleton, Keegan Keenan, Ciara Grant and Mia Dodd were on target for the winners, in a game which saw both of Treaty's goals come from Jenna Slattery at the end of each half respectively.
The deadlock was broken with only five minutes on the clock when Whelan met Grant's cross and headed neatly past Medbh Ryan in the Treaty goal.
The game was barely started but was over as a contest within the next five minutes as Noonan released two thunderbolt strikes in the eight and tenth minutes of play.
Shelbourne continued to dominate the game with Noonan coming close to getting her third on the quarter hour mark.
Midway through the half Eve O’Sullivan pulled down Keeva Keenan on the edge of the area, receiving the only yellow card of the game. Stapleton stepped up and struck the ball sweetly rattling the net with the assistance of the crossbar leaving Ryan with no chance.
On the half hour mark it was Keenans turn to get on the scoresheet, making her full debut, returning to the reds after spells with Glasgow City and Celtic, the 23 year old needed no invitation as she bundled the ball across the line to make it five nil to the northsiders.
The game seemed to be moving in Treatys favour as Shels took their foot off the gas momentarily when the ball made its way to Ciara Grant in a quick counter attack, still with a lot to do, Grant dropped the shoulder, stepped over the ball and rounded the onrushing Ryan to slide the ball into the empty net.
Game well and truly over, Jenna Slattery however did not get that memo as on the stroke of half time pull one back for the shannonsiders to give them a positive going in at the break.
A flurry of substitutions for the home side including changing their keeper, and a Treaty United side buoyed by the late consolation goal in the first half meant neither side could get a real foothold in the second half with Shels quality keeping them afloat.
The half time introduction of new signing Shauna Fox was short lived as with less than 20 minutes played, she was forced off with an injury with Mia Dodd coming on.
Dodd wasted no time showing boss Noal King she deserved her spot making it 7-1 to the self-proclaimed “Dublins Finest”.
Treaty, however, were not willing to lay down and accept defeat when Slattery popped up once again after some excellent team play, Slattery took the ball on the turn and stuck low and hard to breach the goal of sub keeper Lenihan.
The game finished 7-2 to the home side but treaty can look positively on their second half response.
Next up for Shels is an away trip to Galway on July 31st while Treaty must wait until August 4th for their next tie as they host Cork City.
