Treaty loss puts Shels in the hunt
Shelbourne closed the gap on league leaders Peamount United to just three points, as the Shels ran out comfortable 5-0 winners away over a helpless Treaty United at Jackman Park this afternoon.
It was an important game for both sides but the gulf in class showed as goals from Jessica Ziu, Jessie Stapleton, Emily Whelan and a brace from Noelle Murray allowed Shelbourne to cruise to victory.
Truth be told, if it wasn’t for Treaty goalkeeper Michaela Mitchell’s heroics the full-time score-line could have been even more embarrassing for the hosts.
It took Noel King’s side until the 21st minute to break the deadlock and it was an excellent counter attacking move that’ll be a contender for goal of the weekend.
Whelan broke down the right showcasing devastating pace, and her shot into the box was brilliantly dummied by Saoirse Noonan, with the ball falling to Murray who placed the ball into the net with a side footed finish.
On the stroke of half time, Shelbourne’s one-way traffic was rewarded with a penalty, as another good move by the visitors ended with Jamie Finn going through on goal and was clipped in the box.
Despite protests from the Treaty players that the foul was outside of the box, Murray converted the spot kick to score her second of the day.
Two minutes after the restart Shelbourne added a third goal, as Ciara Grant rounded the keeper and Ziu pounced on the loose ball to fire into an empty net.
Stapleton then netted for the first time for the Reds as she headed into the roof of the net from a Murray corner.
Whelan had numerous chances throughout the game, but Mitchell seemed to be getting the better of the striker in their personal battle up until the 73rd minute.
Shelbourne’s number nine was on hand to pounce on the rebound after Finn’s thunderous strike cannoned off the post.
This result leaves Shelbourne in third place on 13 points, one point behind Wexford Youths in second and three behind leaders Peamount.
In direct contrast, Treaty remain bottom of the Women’s National League on just two points from six games.

Mitchell produces another superb stop to deny Shelbourne making it six. It could have been a cricket score if it wasn't for the impressive Aleana Mitchell in the Treaty goal!
GOAL! Whelan makes it five as she finally beats Mitchell after a thunderous strike by Finn cannonned off the post and Whelan is there to place the ball into an empty net off the rebound.
Whelan goes through and has another shot on goal but Mitchell produces a good save at her near post to deny a fifth goal.
GOAL! Shelbourne make it four through Jess Stapleton as she gets his first goal for the Reds. Stapleton headed into the roof of the net from a brilliant corner from Noelle Murray.
GOAL! Jessica Zui scores after she produces a good through ball to Grant who tried to round the keeper but Mitchell got a hand to it and Zui pounced on the loose ball to fire the ball into the net.
Whelan has a great chance but her header is just wide after being picked out by the lively Ziu.

GOAL! Noelle Murray converts the spot kick on the stroke of half time as protests continue from the Treaty defenders who were adamant that the foul was outside of the penalty area.
Penalty to Shelbourne, brilliant move by Shelbourne that ended with Jamie Finn going through on goal and she was fouled in the box.
The rain has stopped and the sunshine has returned to Jackman Park.
The low corner is comfortably clear and Treaty attempt a counter but Slattery clears the danger.

Aoife Horgan has a shot on the half volley from distance but Budden holds on. That is the first well worked move of the game by Treaty.
The one way traffic continues as Murray has a shot on goal that is straight at the keeper.
Header at the back post by FInn after being picked out by Mitchell goes wide, plenty of chances squandered by Shelbourne so far but they still lead 1-0.

Allanah Mitchell pulls off a brilliant save as Wheelan went through one on one but the Treaty goalkeeper made herself big to keep the scores level.

Noel King’s side come into the match off the back of a 2-1 win at home to UCD Waves, courtesy of Emily Whelan’s opener and Noelle Murray’s own goal. Shels are the polar opposites of Treaty as they boost a sensational defence that has only conceded three goals in four games.
The main problem has been defence as United have conceded a league high - a whopping 23 goals thus far; which is almost double any other team, with 14 conceded in their last three games.
