Ronan Murray joins Drogs

Ronan Murray has joined Tim Clancy’s Drogheda United side for the upcoming 2021 League of Ireland Premier Division season after leaving The Showgrounds in Sligo at the end of the last campaign.

The forward becomes the seventh new addition to be added to the First Division Champions squad preparing for their first Premier Division campaign in four seasons.

The 29-year-old had a spells at Dundalk and and Galway and even had spells with Plymouth Argyle, Torquay United and Swindon Town in England where he won a League Two title under former West Ham legend Paulo Di Canio.

Tim got on the phone to see if I would be interested and I said I would. It was as simple as that really, I was delighted to get the call,” Murray said, explaining how the move to Drogheda came about.

Murray will join new signings Dundalk FC team mate Dane Massey, Gary Deegan and Dinny Corcoran as some of the more experienced players in the Drogheda dressing room. Massey is 32 and has had spells with Dundalk, Bray Wanderers and the Republic of Ireland national futsal team. Gary Deegan played in the Scottish Premiership for Hibernian and various clubs in all three divisions of the English Football League.

“Winning is a good habit and they have obviously got that habit from last year. Signing a good mix with the Premier Division experience of Dane, the massive experience from (Gary) Deegan who has played in England at a high level, and Dinny aswell.

“It’s great to get that experience and pass on knowledge. Then you have Tim at that top. Hopefully we can survive first of all and then see where we go from there.”

The former Premier Division & FAI Cup winner with Dundalk has made 193 senior appearances, scoring 32 goals.
