Flood signs for Wexford

Former Irish Rugby International and All Ireland Gaelic football champion Kim Flood has joined Wexford Youths for the upcoming season. The midfielder joins Tom Elme’s side and will add necessary experience to Wexford.

Flood has experienced the Women’s National League before, playing alongside former Youth star Emma Hansberry with Castlebar Celtic. Flood was part of the Castlebar side that contested the FAI Women’s Cup final at the Aviva Stadium in 2013 against Raheny, where they lost 3-2 after Extra-time.

She has also moved into other sports such as GAA. Flood played for Dublin, where she reached an All Ireland Football Final in 2015. Flood has also played Irish Rugby for both 7’s and 15’s sides. She became well established in rugby circles until rehabilitation for a severe injury forced her to take a break.

Kim is now back in the National League with Wexford after a successful stint at St Pat’s.

Wexford youth start their WNL campaign by welcoming current champions Peamount United to Wexford on the 27th of March next month.

Head coach Tom Elme will be hoping Flood can bring a league title back to Wexford for the first time since 2013-2014. Flood said she was excited for the challenge ahead when speaking to the Wexford media team.

“I’m finding pre-season tough but very enjoyable. It’s great to be back in a professional setup and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to train and play.”

The 2019 FAI Women’s Cup winners have teased more signings in the coming days.
