Match Preview: Bohemians V Treaty United

Bohemians Ladies will take on Treaty United in the opening weekend of the WNL season as the Dublin based club hope to go one better than last season against the Limerick outfit.

Treaty in their debut season last year saw the final game of the season against Bohemians that saw the Dublin side lose 5-4 in what was one of the games of the WNL season.

Bohemians start their season at the Oscar Traynor Centre hoping to get their season off to winning ways. One of those players hoping to get off to a good start is midfielder Sophie Watters. The Dundalk born player was highly sought after and the former Irish underage international signed for Bohemians last year after the previous season side lined by a knee injury. The former WFAI cup winner made an impact with a defensive contribution as well as chipping in with a few goals of her own.

“Preseason was good” commented Sophie “It was a lot better than last season and we can start to see things coming together so hopefully, we can bring that more into this weekend”

A part of the team that lost that 5-4 clash last year Sophie is aware of the strengths of this Treaty side.

“We played Treaty last season and had finished five-four to them so I think the result speaks for itself. We are expecting another good match but hoping we will be taking the three points this time”

In their second full season in the Women’s National League, Bohemians are hoping to make their mark this season after impressing during their debut year. There have been a lot of changes in player personnel to bring strength and depth to the squad.

“This is our second season now so we’re hoping to build on last season with the experience of last year and a good preseason under our belts we’re hoping to cut out silly mistakes score more goals and get more points on board”

With five key signings made Sophie knows that these players will benefit Bohemians this season.

“We have five new signings who have settled in well and Sean and the staff have us more tactically tuned in this year so it’s up to us to put it into play on Saturday for the season going forward. Hopefully, we do.”
