Wexford continued their strong start to the season with an emphatic victory over Bohemians in Ferrycarrig Park.
The home side who currently sit second in the table put seven past a Bohemians as they put in a fine performance to ensure they keep the chase on Peamount at the top of the Women's National League.
Kylie Murphy notched a brace of goals along with Lauren Kelly, who came on for her at halftime; as Ciara Rossiter put in a 'Player of the Match' performance who spearheaded the attack with her excellent set-piece delivery.
Erica Burke did respond for Bohemians but it was only a mere consolation as the home side outshone the visitors.
Niamh Coombes was called into action early in the Bohemians goal in the opening exchanges. She pulled off two fantastic stops, but it wasn’t long before Wexford got their goal.
Kylie Murphy did well to head powerfully past Coombes from a Ciara Rossiter cross, which was inch-perfect; to open the scoring on 14 minutes. Bohs responded with a Chloe Darby free-kick that was well saved by Williams.
Wexford got their second goal following a foul on Kylie Murphy, which left the referee with no option but to point the spot. Murphy brushed herself down and slotted home the resulting spot-kick with ease. Aisling Frawley beat the offside trap from a clever through ball to score past Coombes for Wexford’s third.
The second half saw the hosts continue to press and attack. Yvonne Hedigan could only steer the ball into her own net, after another cross from Ciara Rossiter was sent into the area. Rossiter was the provider for another goal, as her pinpoint corner found Kim Flood who headed another goal for Wexford.
Erica Burke restored some parity for Bohemians and left a mark on the game. Naima Chemaou laid a perfect ball for the striker who calmly finished. Lauren Kelly then fired a brace of goals as the game came to its conclusion. The first was another clever set-piece from Rossiter, as the second half substitute scored from close range.
There was an excellent team display in the lead-up to her second goal, as Youths broke away from a Bohemians attack and Aisling Frawley’s curling cross found Kelly at the back post before she applied a cool finish to score Wexford’s seventh.
The visitors will look back on this game as one that is nothing short of a very bad day at the office, ahead of a clash with Shelbourne next week. As for Wexford, it sets them up nicely for their next match in two weeks times when it’s a top of the table clash against Peamount.
