Match Report

Galway up to fourth with win over Waves

First half goals from Isabella Beletic and Eve Dossen saw Galway Utd move up to fourth in the table with a fine win over DLR Waves at Eamonn Deacy Park.

For all their possession and the chances they created the home side could’ve won by more. Beletic got their first goal with just six minutes gone on the clock. They doubled their advantage in the 15th minute through Dossen.

A combination of being wasteful in front of goals and some fine goalkeeping from DLR keeper Eve Badana

Galway Utd took the game to DLR right from the start. Lynsey McKey’s effort was deflected out for a corner. From the corner McKey header came off the crossbar and Beletic got the vital touch to bundle the ball over the line.

In the 12th minute Badana made a fine save to deny Jenna Slattery. Three minutes later the home side got a second goal. McKey with a superb ball into the box and Dossen powerfully headed to the net.

Michelle Doonan had a great chance for DLR in the 19th minute but hit her effort wide. Minutes later AIslinn Meaney showed some great skill and played the ball to Jodie Griffin but she blasted it over the bar.

It was all Galway as they went in search of further goals. Kate Thompson hit her effort wide while Amy Madden hit an effort straight at Badana in the 32nd minute. Just before the break Dossen had a great chance to grab her second goal and her side’s third but she headed over from a McKey corner.

In the 57th minute Badana denied Jenna Slattery after she showed some great skill to get into the position to take the shot. In the 66th minute Badana pulled off a fine double save to deny Galway a third goal. First she pulled off a save to deny Meaney, the loose ball fell to Slattery and the DLR netminder saved from her.

Slattery hit a fine effort from distance in the 75th minute but it just went wide of the post.

DLR tried to create something but were thwarted by the Galway defence. Utd keeper Jessica Berlin didn’t make a save of note throughout the game.
