Emma Starr’s in Galway Win
Galway were made to work hard by Treaty for their win today, but the hosts earning all three points was a fair result.
Despite a solid display from Michaela Mitchell in the Treaty net, Galway eventually found the breakthrough in the 62nd thanks to a fine strike from Emma Starr.
It became clear early on that if Treaty managed to get a result, it would be thanks to Michaela Mitchell. In the opening ten minutes, she pulled off noticeable saves off chances from Kate Slevin and Julie Ann Russell to prevent Galway taking an early lead.
Treaty were down on luck however. A concussion to Esra Kengal and an off the ball injury to Alannah Mitchell forced Niall Connolly to make two subs in the opening 25 minutes, which must have put a spanner in the works for his side.
The rest of the half consisted mainly of Galway trying to take advantage of this, but either failing or being prevented by Mitchell in goals. The two best chances of the half both came in the extended injury time. Rachel Kearns found herself having a free header from a corner, but couldn’t keep it down. Not a minute later, a deflected cross found its way to Lynsey McKey at the back post, who managed to put it over. Treaty were very lucky to be somehow going into the break at 0-0.
Two minutes into the second half a goal of the season contender was almost scored. A long ball to Rachel Kearns was taken down well, after Kearns chested it down and turned before hitting a dipping effort that just sailed over. The Galway striker couldn’t have done much better and Mitchell would’ve been powerless to saving it.
Galway got their long awaited breakthrough right after the hour mark. The ball found its way to Emma Starr from roughly 25 yards out, who caught it on the half volley and found the net. They were made work for it, but the hosts took the lead in style.
The remaining half an hour was more of the same, with Galway having chances to wrap it up but never doing so. Starr had two opportunities to wrap it up in the waning minutes but couldn’t make it a brace. Despite this it was a fine performance from Starr and thanks to her winner Galway take three hard earned points.

Starr dances inside the area and has a chance to finish it, but opted to square the ball before it was intercepted. Should've gone herself.

Mitchell saves a one on one with Starr. Despite the good save, Starr should've wrapped it up.
Slattery tries an audacious long range effort. Coen saw it all the way though.
Thompson had the ball in the back of the net, but the flag is up. Galway thought they had the clincher.
Slattery's effort from the dead ball was always rising. Ten minutes remain for Treaty to salvage something against the run of play.
Slevin after some superb control in the box lays it back to Starr, whose effort just went over. Would've been a fine brace.
Eimear Carey comes on in O'Sullivan's place.
Unfortunately, she has to off.
Another stoppage as Eve O'Sullivan is down. Treaty just seem to have the injury bug today.
Russell puts in a fine cross but no one can meet it. Galway aren't letting up here.
Goal! Curse of the commentator, Starr catches the ball on the half volley and scores from 25 yards out. A great strike to give the hosts a deserved lead.
At the hour mark. Galway still are having the majority of chances, but Treaty are still holding on. Stephen Lally may need to make a change to inject some fresh legs into this side.
McKey (again) cuts inside but Parbat with a superb challenge puts a stop to her advances.
Superb control by Kearns results in her hitting a fine long range strike. Her effort just dipped over, would've been a contender for goal of the season.
Galway start the second half.
Half time. Galway have been the better team, but due to a combination of poor execution and good goalkeeping from Michaela Mitchell, it's all level.
McKey misses a sitter at the back post. That's a chance she'll want back.
Kearns heads over from a corner.
Five minutes added on due to the Kengal injury.
Jenna Slattery booked.
McKey again through some fine work cuts inside and this time chips it to Kearns for a free header. Kearns just couldn't keep her effort down.
Mitchell and Kearns collide after Mitchell came to collect a floated cross. Mitchell got the worst of it, but she seems okay to continue. Would've been horrid luck for Treaty,
McKey with some great work cuts inside and tests Mitchell, who again passed the test. Galway have had all the chances, but are finding it hard to beat Mitchell.
Slevin with a fine strike on the edge of the area. Just sails over, very unlucky.
Slevin delivers a cross and Mitchell pulls off a fine reflex save.
Cara Griffin comes on.
Treaty are forced into another change. Alannah Mitchell comes off.
Coen saves the ensuing free from Slattery.
Poor decision from the ref. Becky Walsh puts in a superb challenge on the edge of her own area and a free is given against her.
She's replaced by Shannon Parbat.
Kengal is forced off as a result of that challenge. Received treatment for quite some time.
Kengal is now down after getting a high boot in the face. Seems there'll be no apprehension for the incident however.

Play is stopped after a collision between Julie Ann Russell and Alanna Mitchell. Hopefully both can continue.
