DLR finish on a high
DLR Waves ended their campaign with a 3-1 win over Treaty United at Jackman Park.
Second half strikes from Shauna Carroll and Jetta Berrill secured all three points for Graham Kelly's side.
Waves dominated the majority of the first period and almost opened the scoring after ten minutes when Catherine Cronin found herself one on one with Michaela Mitchell inside the Treaty area. Mitchell saved well to deny the DLR attacker and keep the scores level.
The Dublin outfit continued to push for an opener and after Shauna Carroll’s strike wasn’t held by Mitchell, Kerri Letmon finished from close range to open the scoring for the visitors.
Carroll was involved again shortly after and she almost doubled DLR’s advantage. She cut in from the right-hand side and hit a left footed curler that looked destined for the bottom corner. Mitchell again was equal to it and pulled off a great save to keep her side in the affair.
On the cusp of the interval, Jess Gleeson was dispossessed just outside of her area by Jenna Slattery who bent an excellent right footed shot into the top corner to equalise for Treaty United. The sides went in level with a goal a piece at the interval.
Just over five minutes after the restart, DLR took the lead again when Nadine Clare’s ball found Carroll in acres of space behind the Treaty defence. Her powerful effort went through the hands of Mitchell and into the back of the net.
Waves increased their lead with just under a quarter of an hour left to play. Michaela Mitchell’s clearance only went as far as Berrill who raced down the right wing before blasting home from an acute angle to double their lead.
Oleta Griffin nearly got her name on the scoresheet as well but her right footed effort from distance was touched over the bar by Mitchell late on in the second period.
Treaty United ended the season in last place with just two wins all campaign, meanwhile DLR Waves caps off a good season finishing in fourth place.
