Match Report
Lone goal hands Cork win
Cork saw out a comfortable win which they thoroughly deserved claiming their first victory of the season with the lone goal of this home tie against Bohemians.
Both sides started the contest brightly in Turner's Cross. The defence seemed to be on top early stages with good attacking play being snubbed out.
Cork grew into the game as Cristina Dring struck the post after 14 minutes and just five minutes later City hit the back of the net from a corner which was headed home nicely by Becky Cassin.
At half-time both sides went in level having each had goals scratched off for offsides.
The hosts dominated the possession in the second half and left the Dublin side living off scraps.
The Rebels Controlled the early exchanges of the match. With impressive counter attacking and exceptional retention of the ball it was a long day for the Dublin side.
The first half saw Cork create many chances, Dring hitting the post from a great effort 25 yards out after 14 minutes and Cassin heading home from a brilliant corner from O’Mahony after 19 minutes Cork deserved the lead.
Bohs were short of creating opportunities to score and each time they went forward Cork were able to counter and get in behind their defence.
Bohemians did hit the back of the net through Yvonne Hedigan but unfortunately for them it was ruled offside.
City also had a goal scratched off for offside just before half time and the sides went in with Cork a goal to the good.
The second half was more of the same as the Munster outfit controlled large portions of the second half keeping possession brilliantly. Eva Mangan and Eabha O'Mahony were immense in the midfield breaking up the play and distributing the ball excellently to their forwards Lauren Egbuloniu benefited massively from this on the wing.
Boh’s never got a foothold in the game and were tired out chasing the play and failing to create any major chances of note.
Cork City will be the happier of the two sides as they notched their first win of the season and where better to do it than in front of their home support in Turners Cross
