WNL Preview: Peamount out to defend crown

The Women’s National League gets back underway this month with its first round of fixtures of the SSE Airtricity WNL 2021 season. The campaign ahead promises to be a special one with several essential match-ups to decide who is the best team in the land.

Peamount United will be looking to defend their WNL crown beginning with a trip away to face Tom Elme’s Wexford Youths side. Peamount have retained top scorers Aine O’ Gorman and Eleanor Ryan Doyle, which will be a massive boost to their manager James O’Callaghan.

Wexford have recruited smartly with Lynn Marie Grant, Kim Flood, and Katie O’Regan. They will be looking to come higher than 3rd this season.

Beaten cup finalists, Cork City will be without superstar Saoirse Noonan but have retained the services of Limerick’s Sophie Liston when they head to Eamonn Deacy Park in Galway.

Noel King’s Shelbourne faces with new signing Saoirse Noonan, who they poached from Cork. Athlone Town had a poor year and will look to stop that.

Bohemians will host new WNL side Treaty United from Limerick, while DLR Waves won’t play in the first round of the competition.

A mid-season break will occur from June 7th through to June 25th, while the preliminary round of the FAI Women’s Senior Cup is set for the weekend ending July 31st.

The FAI Women’s Senior Cup Final will take place on the week ending November 20th.
