Keane only helping Rovers – Bradley

Shamrock Rovers boss Stephen Bradley has ruled out the possibility of Robbie Keane having a significant role in Shamrock Rovers this season.

However, he has acknowledged having the former Ireland striker around can positively affect his forwards.

Robbie has done this for a few years now, he’s been in for a few weeks now and will continue to do so but no he won’t be signing any contracts or coming into the club in any capacity, he just wants to do his trade and learn his trade. He has been in with us since the start of pre-season in our bubble, and he’s been brilliant working with the forwards.

Keane was on the Rovers bench for recent games, including the match against Cork City last Saturday.

Keane is the second-highest earner on the payroll and the fringes at the FAI and thus continues to draw a reported annual salary of €250,000, despite the problems the FAI have had previously.

The former Spurs and Liverpool forward has been joining in with aspects of sessions and work with individual players.

Keane has said his presence around the Rovers camp is merely due to him pondering his next move.

It’s a good chance to keep ticking over and keep practising while I’m not able to travel any further due to Covid.

I’ve got a lot from helping my local team; from helping players regardless of their experience or level.

Keane has recently worked as assistant manager at Middlesbrough alongside Jonathan Woodgate, while he was also a member of the coaching staff during Mick McCarthy’s second spell as Republic of Ireland manager.
