Peamount stay top

A Stephanie Roche header on the stroke of half-time and two quick fire second half goals by Tiegan Ruddy from the spot and Karen Duggan finding the back of the net was enough to keep Peamount top of the league.

In an entertaining encounter at the Oscar Traynor Centre, Pea’s always had that extra edge over their fellow Dublin opponents Bohemians.

Both sides came out of the blocks quickly on what was a very warm and humid day in Dublin.

The pace of the game was frantic for the opening ten minutes with both sides creating chances.

After that period Peamount started to get to grips with their opponents.

They created many chances in the first half from set pieces and open play but their final ball let them down.

Bohs defended very well keeping the Peas players needing to try the harder ball to break them down. Erica Burke upfront held the ball up well for Bohemians but support for her was often too slow to arrive and she found herself often crowded out.

Sadhbh Doyle nearly opened the scoring after 28 minutes from a well constructed Peamount counter attack her chipped effort just hit the crossbar for her sides best effort up to that point.

On the stroke of the interval it was heartbreak for the Bohemians defenders. A great delivery from a corner was met by the rising Roche who headed the ball brilliantly into the back of the net leaving her side to go into the break 1-0 up.

The second half was barely underway when a nasty looking injury to Bohemians player Yvonne Hedigan in the 49th minute saw her replaced.

We wish her all the best and a speedy recovery.

With a lengthy stoppage in play Bohemians never seemed to get back into the flow of the match. Two quick-fire goals one from the penalty spot scored by Tiegan Ruddy in the 59th minute, and another goal tucked away by Karen Duggan in the 65th minute saw Peamount wrap up the game in comfortable fashion with the games pace dropping the away side took control and saw out a comfortable lead as they take all three point back home.
