Ireland stay in Top 50 in latest FIFA rankings

Ireland remain unchanged in the latest FIFA Rankings published today, as they sit 47th in the world.

The Nations League campaign got off to a dismal start following back-to-back defeats away to Armenia, and then at home to Ukraine. However, a massive 3-0 win at home to Scotland followed by a solid 1-1 performance away to Ukraine has kept Ireland’s campaign still alive.

Stephen Kenny’ side are still inside the top 50 and their current ranking is their highest since sitting in 42nd place in February 2021.

On the women’s side of things, Ireland have reached their joint highest all-time placing in the rankings by moving up to 27th. The Girls in Green have not reached a point that high since 2008.

Vera Pauw’s side travel to Georgia for a massive World Cup fixture on Monday where they will be looking to keep their own hopes alive of reaching a World Cup for the first time.

Our group rivals Scotland have paid the price for a poor showing in the World Cup play-off’s where they were beat comfortably by Ukraine. They have slipped from 39th to 45th – their lowest position since 2020.

England remain fifth in the gradings despite a dismal run of form in the Nations League that saw them fail to win any of their four matches.

At the top end of the table, Brazil remain the number one men’s team in the world, with Belgium second.
