Rovers Inflict Tenth Loss In A Row For Treaty

Shamrock Rovers took another step towards a second-place league finish with a 4-1 win over Treaty United in the Market’s field, the game also marking Treaty’s 10th league loss in a row.

Alannah McEvoy opened up the scoring as she snatched onto a rebound at the half-hour mark, Áine O’Gorman making it two at the start of the second half following a slick passing move. Second-half sub Joy Ralph bagged another with 15 minutes to go, before O’Gorman scored her second to make it 4-

Meghan Carr produced a tidy finish to chip Summer Lawless in the Rovers net and grab a consolation goal for the Shannonsiders in the 82nd minute.

The game saw Shamrock Rovers lap up the possession unsurprisingly, but struggle to break down the Treaty United defence for much of the opening periods.

The best opportunity of the opening 25 minutes or so fell to Alannah McEvoy, who received the ball in the centre of the box after a marauding run from Jessica Gargan on the right wing.

McEvoy failed to sort her feet out, eventually mustering a weak effort that was saved by Anne-Marie Ulliac, Savannah McCarthy pouncing on the opportunity but denied again by the strong hand of Ulliac.

McEvoy made amends for that miss at the half-hour mark as she bagged the opening goal. Lia O’Leary started as the architect of the move, whipping in a brilliant cross from the left wing all the way to the Treaty back post to find the towering figure of Stephanie Zambra.

Zambra headed into the ground, her effort saved by Ulliac, McEvoy right there to poke home the rebound.

The hosts weren’t without fight however, Alban Hysa’s side opting to play in a low block and strike on the break. The quality of the final pass often went amiss when the play got moving forward, Aoife Cronin was left chasing many a loose ball.

Naoise Griffin nearly pulled the Shannonsiders level on the brink of half-time, some tidy footwork separating herself from Abby Tuthill before she unleashed a venomous shot from the edge of the area that looked to have Amanda Budden beat, the ball cracking off the crossbar and rebounding back into play.

Treaty United failed to maintain any of that momentum at the end of the first half going into the second, a neat move between McCarthy and Zambra seeing O’Gorman comfortably make it 2-0 at the back post.

The second half saw a far more blunt performance from Treaty in attack, unable to find any joy on the counter as they routinely failed to progress the ball out from the back. Rovers continued to tighten their grip on the game as the minutes passed, Ulliac making a string of impressive saves to prevent a more bruising scoreline.

That strong work from Ulliac was undone in the 73rd minute, a corner from Zambra flying straight into the back of the net as Ulliac fumbled the ball, Zambra being credited with the goal.

O’Gorman grabbed her second of the match with a powerful finish into the top right corner to make it 4-0, Meghan Carr grabbing a consolation goal for her side with a tidy chip over Summer Lawless.

Shamrock Rovers will host Athlone Town in their final game of the season, a win securing second place for The Hoops.

Treaty will attempt to end the season on a high note and snap their losing streak in the process, travelling to Dalymount Park to face Bohemians next Saturday.
