Match Report

Keenan and Ziu craft Shelbourne win

A Keeva Keenan wonder strike and a Jessica Ziu rapid response was enough for Shelbourne to take all three points in Galway.

Keenans shot from 30 yards out hit the crossbar and a brilliant effort put Shels in the lead. Galway equalised through Lynsey McKey but less than a minute later Jessica found the back of the net to secure the points for the away side.

Today's matchup started very lively as both teams showed an appetite to get on the front foot and cause the defences problems.

Three minutes in, Shelbourne nearly opened the scoring as a corner just went wide.

This was followed as many minutes later with Shels causing Hannah Walsh to make a great save, keeping the sides level.

Galway survived that spell and got into the match. Savannah McCarty was immense in the defence and dictating play going forward.

It wasn't until the 30th minute that the away side created another clear chance with Ciara Grant hitting the post after lovely play down the right hand side.

35 minutes in Keeva Keenan struck the ball from 30 yards out crashing the ball off the crossbar and into the back of the Galway net an sensational strike putting them 1-0 going into the break.

The Second half started like the first with both sides creating chances.

Galway started to get a hold in the game, testing the Dublin side's keeper on a few occasions.

This pressure paid off as Lynsey McKey deflected strike found the back of the net United had a lifeline back into the game 67 minutes in.

But it wasn't to be.

Less than a minute later a cross into the box from Shelbourne's Ziu caught out Hannah Walsh in the Galway net as the ball flew over her head. With the visitors 2-1 up this was a disappointing collapse for the Westerners just as they had gotten back into the match.

The league leaders saw out that lead and controlled the time that remained and took all three points back East after what was a tougher game than they may have expected against a sturdy solid Galway side.
