Match Report
Youths deliver against DLR
A nonchalant and rusty return after the mid-season break for Wexford and DLR Waves as all four of the goals in the Youths’ 3-1 triumph at Ferrycarrig Park came from either a set piece or an unfortunate OG.
The opener of the day saw Lynn Marie Grant leap like a salmon to head the ball home from a corner in the first half and that was supplemented by Orlaith Conlon’s poacher finish in the 65th minute at the end of a Ciara Rossiter cross.
DLR got one back from the penalty spot through Carla McManus and it looked like it was all to play for in the last ten minutes before an own goal at the foot of Niamh Barnes cemented Wexford’s position in the game and sees them lay claim to third place in the WNL.
A six pointer from the word go given their proximity in the table this clash was always going to yield fireworks, whether that be in the match itself or the result.
While the game hovered at a tepid passion throughout the victory meant DLR were unsuccessful in their attempt to leapfrog Wexford in the table but may have a chance to do so in the coming weeks given their looming game in hand.
Grant’s headed goal only came about in the 23rd minute following sustained pressure from the home side amongst Eve Badana’s area.
The Sky Blues came back into the fixture for their purple patch just before halftime but despite their best efforts a scramble in the box meant Conlon was next to score.
The handball and subsequent McManus penalty that was converted threw the cat amongst the pigeons with less than ten minutes to go, but that aspiration was quickly dampened when Barnes sent the ball into her own net.
Jubilant Wexford have a chance to extend their points lead next week when they take on Treaty United, while DLR have a chance to make up for this slip up against Galway.

Before the two-week timeout Wexford held Peamount United to a 2-2 draw, while DLR were idle and now have a game in hand to hold over the Youths. This only add\'s to the tension of this tie as a DLR win could see them overtake Wexford in the table and leave the Youth\'s behind in the dust of the gap that is forming at the top of the WNL table between Peamount and Shelbourne
Back again it's Alanna Cunnane for your match commentary in this pervasive third and fourth place Wexford Youths and DLR Waves collision at Ferrycarrig Park from 6:30pm this evening.
