Match Report

Wexford deliver big away to Treaty

Wexford Youths left no room for Treaty United to question their superiority, by pocketing in a sensational 4-nil win, bagged by Sinead Taylor, Kylie Murphy, Ciara Rossiter and Aoibheann Clancy's goals.

The Youths come close from the top enjoying Shelbourne’s trashing 5-nil loss against the champions, after rolling over the top-bottom side with a very impressive performance turned into an easy win from early doors.

Sinead Taylor slotted in the first goal of the afternoon with three minutes on the clock with a brilliant left-footed first time finish answering perfectly to Ciara Rossiter’s cross.

Murphy had it all to extend the lead coming face to face goalkeeper Michaela Mitchell, as she couldn’t connect herself with the ball coming from the right-wing.

Edel Kennedy tried an outstanding goal after a brilliant individual play through the left-wing, sending off a curveball that would be a screamer.

The 2-nil score-line arrived naturally through Murphy, with the captain heading home after Clancy’s cross from a corner.

Treaty United first offensive effort came timidly close to the break, replied immediately with Rossiter’s goal by smashing it in with a powerful shot.

The title runners show continued in the second 45 minutes, with Clancy making it four from the penalty spot, after Murphy getting tackled by the Treaty’s goalkeeper.

While switching pieces and giving game time to all the second-line options, the Youths kept hunger upfront looking for the hand full of goals but got constantly denied by Mitchell, as she held proud with a sequence of brilliant saves.

The substitute Emma Walker got on her right foot the last attempt of the clash to make it five, but she saw Mitchell turning into a wall twice more, pushing the 4-nil through the final whistle.

  • On the opposite end of the table, Wexford keep confirming their application for the title run week after week, as they remain up-high in matters and coming close from the final rounds with a word to say for the trophy.

  • After their fall in the WFAI Cup quarter-finals to Peamount with a 2-nil defeat, Treaty ladies focus all their energy on giving the 2021 league campaign a turnaround.
