Match Report
Clancy clutches up as Wexford take points at the death
A late penalty in the 93rd minute converted by Aoibheann Clancy saw Wexford snatch all three points.
A hot and tense Eamonn Deacy park was met with a hot and tense match as Galway WFC and Wexford Played out a well-contested match in the West.
Wexford started the game the brightest but failed to convert their chances, Galway held in there and created chances of their own but lacked that final ball.
After 10 minutes Galway started to get to grips with their opponents getting the ball down and playing some good football as their own and put a halt to Wexford's early strong start.
It was all square at the Water break forced by the great weather and both sides appreciated the break after a high tempo start to the match.
Galways Becky Walsh had the best effort of the half after 36 minutes as Galway launched a free kick into the area from deep with Walsh rose highest beating Maeve Williams in goal for Wexford but her effort went just wide of the post.
The sides cancelled each other out in the first half and went in at the break 0-0.
The second half saw the tempo drop and the effects of the weather taking its toll saw both sides struggle to create many chances of note. Wexford held possession well and their attacking play was threatening but they just failed to make that final ball stick or find the back of the net.
Galway came closest to scoring after 75 minutes when sub Rola Olusola header was nearly scrambled over the line Wexford got a foot on it and unfortunately for Galway the ball hadn't gone over the line.
But in the 92nd minute, Galways defence became undone as they conceded a penalty in the dying minutes of the match. Wexfords Aoibheann Clancy stepped up and converted confidently sealing all three points for the away side
Both sides played out a competitive match in warm conditions and both sides could feel they contributed to a very good match but unfortunately for Galway Wexford left with the all-important three points.
