Wexford FC appoint Tony Doyle as new CEO with structure change in wait

Wexford FC fans can expect a new structure in the near future, with the club today appointing Tony Doyle as CEO.

The Wexford Supporters Trust approved Doyle’s appointment at an EGM and announced the decision this afternoon. Doyle is a local business man and begins the role with immediate effect.

“I am delighted that the EGM of the Wexford Supporters Trust has voted in favour of the proposals to move our club forward and give Wexford a club and a team to be proud of, “Doyle told Wexford FC media.

“My sole intention throughout this process has been to offer a platform for progress to all of us in Wexford with football at heart, he added.

Doyle’s emphasis on policies that will look to better football in Wexford in general is a particular reason to be upbeat for the Slaneysiders. He plans to lead a shareholding offering open to every football club in the county, as well as interact with individuals and business to build extended ownership model.

The decision is seen as a necessary progression for the club, following on from the introduction of the Supporter’s Trust membership model in 2017. The move will enhance the influence supporters have on the club and Doyle has said it is “a time for unity and ambition.”

The new CEO’s main targets are to stabilise finances, provide the shareholding offering, and reach an agreement with the Wexford League and FAI on the future use of Ferrycarrig Park. He also wants to build a closer relationship between the men’s team and Wexford Youths Women FC.

Ray Noonan of the Wexford Supporter’s Trust called the development an exciting time for football in Wexford. “The Wexford Supporters Trust voted in favour of this move as we want to see the club progress but also continue its important community work which this club was built on, “said Noonan.

Speaking about the aim of bringing the two teams closer, Alan Browne added his approval of the decision. “I’m delighted to welcome Tony Doyle as the new CEO of Wexford FC and we look forward to working with him on bringing the two sides of the club closer together for the benefit of football in Wexford.”
