Longford Town have a chance to move up to third in the table when they play host to Cobh Ramblers at Bishopsgate (kick-off 7.45pm).
This game was due to take place in the opening weekend of the season but was postponed due to the weather.
Gary Cronin’s side are four games unbeaten in the league following their 2-0 win at home to rivals Athlone Town on Saturday night. The first El Clasico of the season was far from a classic but second half goals from Darren Craven and Michael Barker ensured Longford extended their unbeaten run over Athlone to 18 games.
It was also Town goalkeeper Luke Dennison’s third clean sheet of the season.
Speaking to the club’s media the netminder said: “We came in with a game plan and knew Athlone would pose a threat on the counter attack with the speed and strength up front and at set pieces. We handled it all very well. Gary (Cronin) had us well drilled throughout the week. We performed everything we needed to do. Came in at half-time 0-0 probably could’ve been up 1 or 2. Then we came out flying in the second half two goals quick and more and more opportunities that didn’t go in.”
Cobh Ramblers are currently eighth in the table, three points ahead of bottom side Athlone Town. They lost to Munster rivals Waterford 4-0 on Friday night. Their only win of the season came against Athlone last month when they won 3-2 while their other point came in the first game where they drew 0-0 with another Munster side, Treaty Utd.
A win for Ramblers would see them move to within one point of seventh placed Wexford FC. Ramblers defeated Town twice in the shortened 2020 season. Their last visit to the Strokestown Road ended 1-0.
Luke Dennison knows that Town will need to do their job if they are to pick up another win: “Everyone is looking forward to it. We’ll recover after the weekend and get back training on Monday. Come up with another game plan and hopefully do our job; another clean sheet and another win on Tuesday.”
