Murphy brace sees Bohs cruise past Cabo
There was no Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup fairytale ending for Cabinteely as their first appearance in the cup ended with defeat against Premier Division side Bohemians at the Carlisle Grounds.
The scoreline could’ve been a lot different had it not been for some poor finishing from Bohs and excellent goalkeeping from Cabo keeper Niamh Haskins.
A fine strike from Fiona Donnelly opened the scoring for Bohs in the 49th minute before Lisa Murphy scored a brace as the Phibsborough side advanced in the cup.
The first half was dominated by Bohemians but for all their possession they failed to break the deadlock. They squandered numerous chances due to poor finishing. They were also thwarted by fine goalkeeping from Haskins and right before half-time Chloe O’Brien cleared the ball off the line as Bohs pressed for the opening goal.
In the eighth minute Haskins did well to prevent Katie Burdis’ effort from going in. Minutes later Rachel Doyle played a neat ball into Katie Malone but Haskins saved. In the space of one minute Malone had two chances but her second effort was stopped again by the Cabo netminder.
Kira Bates Crosbie had a chance in the 22nd minute but it went wide. Cabo tried to create something on the break but did very little to trouble Bohs keeper Rachael Kelly and the visitors’ defence.
In the 45th minute Doyle’s cross found Lynn Craven at the far post but she put the ball over the bar then Cabo defender O’Brien cleared the danger off the line as Cabo held Bohs scoreless at the break.
Four minutes into the second half Bohs opened the scoring. Cabo had possession but Donnelly won it back for Bohs, she took a shot and her fine effort went in past Haskins.
In the 51st minute Bohs doubled their advantage; Doyle’s corner was headed to the net by Murphy. Murphy got her second and Bohs’ third in the 63rd minute. This time a corner from Burdis found Murphy at the far post and she headed home.
Murphy tried to grab a hat-trick. Her effort in the 77th minute was put out by Haskins for a corner.
