European/FAI Cup Draw Roundup:

There was interest across the League of Ireland today in the FAI Cup and European draws which have all taken place since lunchtime.

FAI CUP:

Firstly the FAI Cup draw for the Last 16 was completed, with games being played on the final weekend of this month, 26-28th of August.

Non League Donegal side Bonagee United were first out, handed a home tie against Shelbourne FC.

Leinster Senior League Lucan United are also at home, and their opponents will not have far to travel as they face Bohemians. There is potential for this fixture to be moved to Dalymount however.

Drogheda United who saw off Athlone with ease on Friday night play Shamrock Rovers.

Derry City host First Division leaders Cork City, a big journey for the leesiders.

Galway United host UCD in a tasty affair at Eamonn Deacy Park that could go either way.

Maynooth University Town will look to cause an upset when they host Treaty United.

Wexford welcome Dundalk who are no stranger to a big cup run.

Finally Malahide host Waterford who will be buoyant coming off the back of a big win against St Pat’s at the weekend.

EUROPA LEAGUE:

Shamrock Rovers now know what could await them should they progress in their third-round fixture this weekend against Shkupi of North Macedonia. Qarabag FK (Azerbaijan) or Ferencvaros (Hungary) will await the winners with the chance to progress to the Europa League Group Stages of the competition. Should they fall to Shkupi…

CONFERENCE LEAGUE:

Rovers would be confident of progressing to the Uefa Conference League Group Stages as they would play the winners of the tie featuring Ballkani (Kosovo) v KÍ Klaksvík (Faroe Islands).

Elsewhere, Sligo Rovers and St Patrick’s Atheltic are now aware of the potential opponents awaiting should they win their third qualifying round ties.

St Patrick’s Athletic, should they come through CSKA Sofia, would face a very tricky task as Brondby (Denmark) or Basel (Switzerland) stand in their way of the Group Stages.

Sligo Rovers will be quietly confident that should they defeat Norweigean outfit Viking FC over the next 10 days, they could progress to the European Group Stages with Dunajská Streda (Slovakia) or FCSB (Romania), who many will know by their previous name Steaua Bucharest their potential opponents.
