Carbury Back on Top in Sligo Leitrim

Carbury are back in a familiar position at the top of the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League table. They played out an epic encounter with newly promoted Ballymote Celtic at Brother Walfrid Park to take top spot in the league table.

Carbury had in their artillery the greater firepower with leading scorer Gary Armstrong netting twice bringing his goal tally to five in four games. The silver fox Gareth Kelly also scored two goals with a goal apiece from Kaillum Burns, Gerry Brennan and Kyle Cawley completing the strikes for Carbury. Ballymote Celtic responded well with a goal each from Colm Duffy, Jack Hever and the Hit Man Mark Irwin but Carbury on the day were lethal and finished the stronger of the two.

Cartron travelled to Ballinafad for their clash with Aughanagh Celtic and the visitors will be relived and delighted to have come away with all three points after playing one of the get out of jail cards. Malachy Spratt fired Cartron into the lead on thirty minutes Aughanagh Celtic were then awarded a penalty that Stephen Craig blazed over the bar.

Malachy Spratt pushed Cartron further ahead on sixty-five minutes but Aughanagh fought back and ten minutes later were awarded another penalty this time Darragh Hailstones stepped up and cracked home a splendid spot kick it was game on.

Aughanagh Celtic surging forward at every opportunity only to find the Cartron rear-guard in outstanding form. This was a great three points for Cartron but make no mistake about Aughanagh Celtic with this side will take a lot of beating especially on home turf.

MCR were visitors to Mullaghmore against the kingpins of North Sligo Cliffoney Celtic in a very tight game that MCR eventually won b y two goals to nil. The first strike on seventy minutes from the elusive Aliou Manoh Sesay and with five minutes remaining Gary Mc Cartney struck the second and decisive goal for the Green and Whites.

Weather conditions seen this game moved from Strandhill to Ballisodare where Strand Celtic and Merville United served up a feast of goals in a ten goal Thriller. Aaron O Boyle hitting a hat trick for Strand and a goal apiece from Leo Doherty, Mark Mc Callion and Cormac Correia capturing all three points for the Strand boys.

Merville pushed their opponents all the way with strikes from Ryan Hargadon, Daniel Kilcullen, Jordan Harte and Ryan Downey insuring an intense and hard-fought game with two very good young sides. This result now has Strand in fifth place on the league table with Merville five places lower in tenth position.

The Riverstown Boys, Arrow Harps made their trip to the superb facilities at Ballisodare a most profitable encounter winning by the odd goal in three. Luke Flynn putting the visitors ahead on twenty-four minutes and Stephen Fallon equalising for Ballisodare four minutes before the break to give them a life line.

Arrow Harps continued to press and on sixty-four minutes were rewarded when Niall Whelan fired home what proved in the end to be not alone the winning goal but the first win for Arrow Harps in the Super League since been promoted. Ballisodare on the other hand are struggling at the moment four games and four defeats on a team that should can do much better.

Coolaney United bounced right back from their draw with Gurteen Celtic the previous Sunday and shocked St Johns the leaders of the pack in The Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier League winning at Coolaney winning by the odd goal in five and in doing so take over leadership at the top of the table.

Coolaney led by two goals to nil at the break with strikes from Anthony Walsh and Cathal Davey. St Johns hit back immediately after the break with Malcolm Reilly firing home but Coolaney United restored order on sixty-five minutes with a Ciaran Mc Murray special and again St Johns responded ten minutes from time when David Heffernan netted to insure the last ten minutes was a tense and nail biting affair but Coolaney stood tall and are now the new Premier League leaders.

Calry Bohs shared the points with new kids on the block Dromahair at Hazelwood. Anthony Henneberry giving Dromahair the lead from the penalty spot on thirty minutes, Calry Bohs were back level seven minutes later when ex Calry Bohs player Adrian Fowley scored an own goal and a minute later the big man Eoin Nicholson had Calry Bohs ahead. Both sides
continued to attack and Dromahair were rewarded on sixty minutes when Jamie Conlon rifled home a glorious equaliser to earn Dromahair a well-deserved point in this excellent encounter.

Carrick Town made the long journey to Glenview Stars a most rewarding trip hitting three goals without reply at Forthill. Joint leading scorer Shane Beirne hitting two goals to bring his league tally to five in four games and Ryan Duarte put the icing on the cake with the third goal for the Town. Stars had their chances but, in the end, poor finishing left them well adrift.

Ballygawley Celtic were hosts to visitors Gurteen Celtic at points were at a premium for both sides in this encounter. Gurteen Celtic were two goals ahead at the break thanks to goals from David Shepard and Tony Taylor.

Ballygawley Celtic were back in the fray courtesy of an own goal and then a strike from James Mackey levelled matters. But Gurteen Celtic are now showing their steel and Ross O Dowd once again gave the lead but on sixty five minutes Ryan Walsh was on hand to net the equaliser for Ballygawley Celtic that earned them in the end a very valuable point.
