Bohs Further Extend Winning Run Over Athlone
A dramatic ending at Dalymount saw Bohemians come out 3-2 winners over Athlone Town after two goals in injury time.
Madison Gibson equalised in the 93rd minute via a spot kick, but a minute later a poorly cleared ball fell to feet of Mia Dodd who found the net to win it for Bohs.
Bohs got to an absolutely perfect start just 40 seconds in. The ball was worked out right to Sarah Rowe who pulled it back to the edge of the area for a waiting Mia Dodd. The unmarked Dodd hit it first time and gave Nyla Peterkin no chance, a beautiful finish to break the deadlock.
Athlone had the lions share of chances up until the interval. Rachel Kelly was called into action to deny efforts from Dana Scheriff, Laurie Ryan and Chloe Singleton, answering the call each time.
The visitors best chance at an equaliser came right before injury time when Madison Gibson was slipped through for a one on one with Kelly but fired right at her. It should’ve been 1-1.
Bohs would punish this on the brink of the interval. A cross from the right was blocked and the ball sat up for Rowe, who hit it first time just inside the box on the volley and found the net. Perfect timing from Bohs, whilst Athlone will have been kicking themselves.
Athlone started off the second half the better side and got their reward in the 63rd minute. Madison Gibson pulled it back for Devaney whose header ricocheted off Kate Slevin at the back post and went in. An unorthodox one, but Athlone didn’t care and pressed one.
They had a big penalty shout waved away in the 77th minute. Devaney got in behind Lisa Muprhy and although Murphy won the ball initially, dragged down Devaney from a second challenge. Athlone could feel slightly aggrieved at that one.
They won a penalty in extra time however when a ball dinked in fell down to Devaney who was shoved in the back by Lisa Bates Crosbie. Madison Gibson stepped up and found the roof of the net to give Athlone what looked like a sure equaliser.
Barely a minute later however Nyla Peterkin rushed off her line to deal with a through ball to Erica Burke. Her clearance was poor and fell right to Dodd, who lobbed in from the 30 yards to give Bohs all three points.

Gibson's inviting cross isn't met. Athlone look good for an equaliser but need it soon.
Kelly is off her line to deny Brennan following a gorgeous pass from Heron. Really good goalkeeping.
Goal! Athlone have a lifeline. A Gibson cross is met by Devaney, whose header ricochets off Slevin and in! 2-1.
And the cross to the back stick is skied by Molloy. Got it all wrong.
Singleton wins Athlone a corner. Athlone have started this half well but need a goal soon.
Great chance for Athlone. Heron meets it at the back stick and Athlone attempt to bundle it but fail. Another huge missed chance for the visitors.

Good play from Keenan forces a corner.

Goal! Bohs punish Athlone and its a wondeful volley from Sarah Rowe just inside the box! A perfect time for the home side to double their lead.
Gibson is through one on one and hits it right at Kelly. Should be 1-1.
Two minutes added on.
Devaney takes down Kelly whilst the latter was attempting to shepherd a ball out. Kelly is still down and Devaney is probably lucky to avoid a card.
Ball seems to hop as it gets to Singleton from range and she skies it. Element of bad luck to that.
Weithofer gives it away poorly to Burke who she then takes down before she gets through on goal. Yellow card.
Devaney has a shot blocked in the area.
It's played short to Dodd and Keenan closes her down for the block.
Weithofer takes down Burke right on the edge of the area. Free from close range for Bohs.
Now Kelly gets down to tip a Singleton header wide. Very busy early on.
A Ryan strike outside the box is collected by Kelly. Athlone on top since the goal.
Now Scheriff forces a big save from Rachel Kelly. Tempo is high.
Goal! Bohs hit the front early as Mia Dodd gets on the end of a cross from Sarah Row and fires in! What a start!
We're off.
This is the first meeting of the two sides this season. Athlone defeated Bohs twice last season, once in Lissywollen halfway through the season and once in Dalymount on the final day. The other encounter at Dalymount was a draw. A Bohs win would be a first over Athlone Town in the WPD.
Athlone have been losing ground on the top of the table, so a win is needed. Bohs would put clear daylight between the two in the table with a win, extending the gap to eight points.
Bohs are looking to make it four wins on the bounce whilst Athlone are looking to snap a two game losing streak. Should be a good test for both sides.
