Match Report

Wonderful Wexford take first win

Teenage sensation Ellen Molloy found the net four times, as Wexford Youths ran riot at Jackman Park thrashing Treaty United 7-1, to secure their first win of the season.

Molloy made her first appearance of the campaign after returning from International duty and showed why she has the potential at such a young age to become one of the game’s biggest stars.

Wexford’s early pressure was rewarded as Ciara Rossiter opened the scoring with a left footed finish from the edge of the box

However, their lead lasted just six minutes as Aoife Cronin drew the hosts level with a precise header from Aoife Horgan’s corner.

But the home side failed to build on their equaliser and continued to be dominated by a relentless Wexford.

Sinead Taylor put the away outfit back in front with a wonderful volley inside the box, after flicking the ball up on to her right foot and powering the ball past a helpless Medbh Ryan in the Treaty goal.

Shortly before half time, Wexford extended their lead with Molloy’s first goal of the day, curling the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards out to reward a dominant first half display.

Youths started the second half as they finished the first, and immediate pressure was rewarded with a penalty, after Kylie Murphy was fouled in the area.

The Carlow native stepped up after winning the penalty and made no mistake slotting the ball into the corner of the net.

Molloy rounded off a majestic display with three additional goals to rub salt into the wounds of a helpless Treaty.

She punished United’s timid defence with a dispossession and left keeper Ryan with no chance as her shot flied into the roof of the net, for her opening goal.

The 16-year old completed her hat-trick as she glided through the opposing shaky backline and stayed cool and composed in front of goal.

She added a fourth to add insult to injury with a header to round off an emphatic win.

The result means Treaty remain winless and fall to the foot of the table, whilst a first victory of the campaign means Wexford move up to third just two points behind leaders Shelbourne.
