Roundup: AIL – Women’s Division


Railway Union are now tied with UL Bohemian at the summit of the Women’s All Ireland League after a fantastic bonus point victory over Cooke at Shawsbridge. Galwegians shocked Old Belvedere at Crowley Park to move Belvo off first place. UL Bohemian edged out title rivals Blackrock College in a thrilling affair at Stradbrook while Suttonians and Malone also secured valuable wins this weekend.

Ballincollig 19-33 Malone, Saturday 27th November, Tanner Park.

Malone secured their second win of the campaign away to Ballincollig which takes the Dublin side to sixth place in the table. Tries courtesy of Emma Jordan, Anna Stanfield, Neve Jones and two from Holly Brannigan secured the bonus point victory for Malone. Malone host Suttonians next week while Ballincollig take on the flying UL Bohemian.

Blackrock 16-17 UL Bohemian, Saturday 27th November, Stradbrook.

It was a top of the table clash that didn’t disappoint with UL Bohemian narrowly edging out Blackrock. A late try from Eimear Considine was the difference for the Limerick side after Chloe Pearse and Alana McInerney’s tries were cancelled out by Blackrock tries from Tess Meade and Laura Feely. Rock face Old Belvedere next week with just a point separating the two sides. UL Bohemian host Ballincollig in a Munster Derby next Saturday.

Cooke 0-63 Railway Union, Saturday 27th November, Shawsbridge.

Railway Union remain the only unbeaten side in the league this season and cruised to comfortable bonus point victory away to basement side Cooke. It’s just one win from seven for Cooke now and they will be hoping to pick up some valuable points in the coming weeks if they are to jump off the bottom of the table. Railway host the in form Galwegians next while Cooke travel to Wicklow.

Galwegians 38-26 Old Belvedere, Saturday 27th November, Crowley Park.

The shock of the round came in Galway this weekend where Galwegians defeated title challengers Old Belvedere. Megan Walsh, Jessica Loftus, Mairead Coyne and two tries from Orla Dixon secured Galwegians third victory of the campaign. 13 points from the boot of the ever-reliable Emma Keane sealed the bonus point win. Belvo face another huge game next week away to Blackrock College at Stradbrook while Galwegians face unbeaten Railway Union.

Suttonians 38-6 Wicklow, Saturday 27th November, Station Road.

Braces of tries from prop Mary Healy and winger Molly Fitzgerald sealed Suttonians second bonus point win of the league campaign. It’s a first loss in three games for Wicklow who started to hit some form prior to the clash, but Suttonians were too much for the Garden County side. Wicklow will be eager to return to winning ways next week at home to last placed Cooke while Suttonians face Malone at Gibson Park.
