AIL Roundup: Women’s Energia Cup Week 3

Railway Union and UL Bohs both kept their unbeaten status alive after the thirds round of cup action, while Galwegians secured their first win.

Ballincollig 14-50 Blackrock College, Tanner Park

The returning Ella Durkan scored two tries as Blackrock secured an emphatic win over Ballincollig. Tiare Siguenza and Sarah O’Donovan both crossed for the hosts in the opening half but Blackrock hit a purple patch, they led 26-14 at the break and tries from Alanna Fitzpatrick,

Beth Cregan, Lisa Mullen, Abby Moyles and a brace each for Ella Durkan and Ciara Scanlan secured the win, while Moyles also kicked five conversions.

Galwegians 22-20 Wicklow, Crowley Park

Galwegians secured their first win in the cup with a two point margin over Wicklow.

Emily Gavin got over early for their opening score, but a great counter attack by Wicklow saw Niamh Ni Dhroma level matters with a try. Ellen Connolly put the hosts back in front as Nicole Fowley converted for a 12-5 lead. Sarah Gleeson went over for Wicklow to leave two between them at the break.

Wegians started the second half stronger and Grace Moran Brown and Connolly both added tries to get their bonus point and build up a 22-10 lead, Saoirse Reilly and Eimear Douglas both crossed late on but Wicklow were unable to find those extra points.

Suttonians 5-33 UL Bohemian, JJ McDowell Memorial Grounds

UL Bohemian kept up their unbeaten run in the Cup with another high scoring win.

Carrie O’Keefe and Ciara O’Dwyer exchanged tries early on before Stephanie Nunan crossed for the second UL try, Flannery converted to put them ahead 12-5 at the break. 

UL cruised in the second half tries by Chloe Pearse, Eilís Cahill and Claire Bennett were all converted by Kate Flannery to ensure they got their third win in as many games,

Old Belvedere 13-29 Railway Union, Ollie Campbell Park

Railway Union also remain unbeaten in the series and top the table on score difference after a strong showing over Old Belvedere.

Emma Murphy opened the account for Railway after 18 minutes with an unconverted try, Jemma Farrell replied off the tee but Niamh Byrne added a second try just before the break to make it 12-3 to the visitors.

Stephanie Carroll wasted no time in getting Railway on the board in the second half, after her footwork combined with pace saw her race in for their third try, Christine Coffey converted to further increase their advantage. Aimee Clarke and Coffey both added tries late on, before Belvedere came to life in the final quarter, Elise O’Byrne-White got their first try after 67 minutes, before Hannah Wilson crossed three minutes later.
