AIL Roundup: Women’s Energia Cup Round 2

Railway Union were bonus point winners over Wicklow in the only Women’s Energia Cup game that took place this weekend.

Wicklow (1T) 10-43 Railway Union (7T) , Ashtown Lane

Railway Union continued their unbeaten start to the cup series and will look to have secured a spot to defend their cup title later this month.

It was a tight start to the contest with both teams finding it difficult to add scores. Railway drew first blood with Rhiann Heery crossing and with Maebh Keegan adding a second try and Claire Keohane adding a conversion, the lead was 12-0. A crossfield kick from Beth Roberts was well gathered by Saoirse O’Reilly and she dotted down the opener, Roberts adding the conversion.

Railway pressed on with Niamh Byrne adding a third try and two more tallied from Lindsay Peat, along with Keohane landing two more conversions the visitors were 31-7 clear at the break.

Roberts would add a penalty in the second half, Railway to their credit stayed diligent and two tries from Sarah Munnelly with one converted by Keohane saw the Dubliners prevail by 33 points.

Suttonians 28-0 Blackrock College

The meeting of Suttonians and Blackrock College did not take place this weekend, Suttonians were awarded a bonus point win as Blackrock conceded the fixture.

Galwegians 28-0 Old Belvedere

The meeting of Galwegians and Old Belvedere will not take place this weekend, Galwegians have been awarded a 28-0 bonus point win as Old Belvedere conceded the fixture.
