AIL Roundup: Women’s Division Week 5

Week Five of the Women’s AIL Division, was another top drawer showing from Old Belvedere, while Railway Union and Blackrock both added high scoring Bonus Point wins.

Old Belvedere 24-0 Galwegians, Ollie Campbell Park

Old Belvo were dominant in their bonus point win over Galwegians in Ollie Campbell Park, a result that certainly merits them being top of the division.

It has been the perfect start fir them after five games, four bonus point wins leaving them ahead of Railway Union and Blackrock by four points.

By half time it was certainly a tight affair as Belvedere were ahead 5-0, however they really found their feet in the second half, Elise O’Byrne-White, Jenny Murphy, Fiona Tuite and Brittany Hogan crossing for their tries in the tie.

Railway Union 88-0 Cooke, Park Avenue

Union continue to hunt down back-to-back success in the Women’s Division, as they blitzed Cooke in a 16 try masterclass in Park Avenue.

Lindsay Peat and Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe both were in sensational scoring form, with Peat crossing for five tries as Murphy Crowe notched seven for her tally.

They gave Cooke little in the way of a reprieve, ahead by 44-0 at half time, they never took the foot of the gas, a fourth win and fourth bonus point to go with it.

UL Bohemian 7-63 Blackrock College, UL North Campus

Blackrock picked off where the left off the week previous, with another high scoring win this time down in Shannonside.

Running over ten tries in the end, Beibhinn Parsons continued her impressive start to life in the AIL with a brace of tries.

The Limerick side unable to cope with the attacking threat Blackrock are bringing to the AIL this season, as Megan Burns also notched a brace of tries.

Wicklow 27-10 Suttonians, Ashtown Lane

Wicklow picked up a famous win at the weekend, defeating Suttonians for the first time in the AIL as plenty of their young stars put their hands up when needed.

Second Half tries by Roisin Stone and Linda Dempsey helped guide the Wicklow side to defeat their Dublin opponents, Suzanne Tyrell crossed for a brace while Sarah Gleeson added a well taken effort.

Sutts came back through tries from Janita Kareta and Mary Healy to trail 17-10 at the interval, but Wicklow battled well to put space between them in the second half.
