AIL Preview: Women’s Division Week 5

Week five of the Women’s AIL Division, serves up another top quality tie as Old Belvedere meet Galwegians, while Railway Union and Blackrock look to remain unbeaten.

Old Belvedere V Galwegians, Saturday Oct 15th, Ollie Campbell Park, 5pm

After last weekend’s crushing defeat to Blackrock, Galweigans head back to the capital, hoping for a different fortune this weekend. Only their first loss but it has seen them move down to fourth in the table.

Belvedere had plenty to spare against Cooke last weekend, their third bonus point win in four games, Laura Canty and Aoife Dillion looked dangerous as they both crossed for scores.

Of the three to yet be beaten in the Division, Belvedere are the top scorers, they bring threat in their movement and ability to score, Wegians struggled last weekend for them they cannot have a replication of last weekend.

Railway Union V Cooke, Saturday Oct 15th, Park Avenue, 5pm

Union are slowly on a push for the top of the table, but would need a Wegians win to work in their favour. Having played a game less a fourth straight bonus point win against Cooke would be exactly what they want.

In their 14 try demolition of Suttonians last weekend, they looked capable of beating anyone in the Division, Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe is in fine form for the Union, her scoring has been a mainstay in their success.

Cooke are rock bottom of the table, they have had plenty of heavy losses this season and it will be hard to not look past another this weekend, especially with how well Union can attack.

UL Bohemian V Blackrock College, Saturday Oct 15th, UL North Campus, 5pm

With the newly acquired Beibhinn Parsons in their ranks, Blackrock will look to extend their unbeaten run to four games as they travel to Shannonside to meet UL Bohs. Five tries on her debut makes Parsons a huge threat to the Limerick outfit.

UL had a break last weekend but will find it tough to stop the high flyers from Dublin, they did have a confidence boost in their 27-24 win over Wicklow last time out, plenty of quality in their ranks to cause a degree of difficulty for Blackrock.

Parsons will obviously be watched with caution after her sensational debut last week, while the likes of Enya Breen is another player that can make it all tick for them, Maebh Deely, Michelle Claffey and Anna Doyle can all add to their try scoring tally.

Wicklow V Suttonians, Saturday Oct 15th, Ashtown Lane, 5pm

Wicklow managed to leave Tanner Park with a shrew of the spoils in a tight 10-10 draw with Ballincollig last weekend, a home tie against a beaten Sutts may warrant a change of fortune.

Level at no score each at the break, Sarah Gleeson and Caoimhe Molloy both crossed in that second half, but it was not to be as they failed to record a first win of the season.

Suttonians will look to forget their heavy loss last time out and get back to winning ways, Lena Kibler, Jools Aungier, Meabh O’Brien and Catherine Martin are all well capable of keeping the scoreboard ticking over in their teams favour.
