Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 1A

Clontarf regained top spot in the Division 1A Energia All-Ireland league after their bonus point victory away to UCC.

Hot on their tails are Lansdowne, who trail the league leaders by two points, with those two suggesting the title race is a two-horse race, with the gap increasing to seven points between first and third.

UCD 12-20 Terenure College, Belfield:

In Friday night’s huge bottom half of the table clash, Terenure College secured an away victory at Belfield to add to UCD’s woes.

Jordan Coghlan’s brace and Adam LaGrue’s try leaves UCD in eighth with 10 points, whilst the victorious visitors lie in seventh with 17 points.

Ballynahinch 17-19 Cork Constitution, Ballymacarn Park:

In a closely fought contest, the visitors came out on top at Ballymacarn Park courtesy of Rob Jermyn’s and John Forde’s crossovers, with nine points coming from fly half Aidan Moynihan.

Despite a valiant effort, Ballynahinch remain winless and the league’s bottom side with four points, whilst Cork Constitution are in third with 21 points.

Garryowen 5-29 Lansdowne, Dooradoyle:

Title fighting Lansdowne secured an impressive away win at Dooradoyle, with them now trailing league leaders Clontarf by two points.

Tries from Sean Galvin, Luke Thompson and a brace from Peter Sullivan condemned fifth place Garryowen to their fourth defeat of the season.

Dublin University 38-3 Young Munster, College Park:

The students romped to a 38-3 thrashing at home to a helpless Young Munster courtesy of tries from Giussepe Coyne, Harry Sheridan, Diamuid McCormack, Aran Egan, Marcus Kiely and Ronan Murphy.

Dublin University move up to sixth with 18 points, whilst Young Munster fall to fourth with 21 points.

UCC 17-36 Clontarf, The Mardyke:

Clontarf regained top spot thanks to scores from Cormac Daly, Cathal O Flynn, Tadhg Bird and a brace from Cian O’Donoghue.

UCC fall to ninth, having won just one game this season and are on five points.
