AIL Roundup: Women’s Division Round 12

UL Bohs are six points clear at the top of the Women’s Division, Railway close behind after another big win this weekend, Blackrock returned to action with a win while Ballincollig have built some momentum in recent weeks.

Ballincollig (6T) 36-10 Cooke (1T), Tanner Park

Ballincollig kept up their recent winning streak as they ran in six tries past Cooke at the weekend.

Brighid Twohig and Michelle O’Driscoll ran in tries to give Ballincollig a 10-0 lead before the half hour mark. Ilse van Staden reduced arrears crossing for an unconverted try for Cooke a few short minutes later, however just before the break Sinead O’Reilly crossed after numerous phases of constant attack to dot down.

Laurileigh Baker added the bonus point try early in the second half with Alison Kelly converting for a 22-5 lead. O’Driscoll crossed for a second individual try with 66 minutes on the clock Anna Roche converted to further their lead. Stacey Sloan got Cooke back on the board late on with their second try, a consolation score that was quickly cancelled out as Roisin Ormond added their sixth try soon after with Roche converting.

Blackrock College (4T) 24-10 Wicklow (1T), Stradbrook

Blackrock marked their return to action with a strong win over Wicklow in this all Leinster affair. 

Rock set the tempo in the opening half, Catherine Martin, Amelia McFarland and Maggie Boylan crossing for tries, with Clíodhna O’Sullivan kicking two conversions, Wicklow’s only score of the half came from a Beth Roberts penalty, the score at the break 17-3 in favour of the hosts.

O’Sullivan would add a try in the second period, Wicklow did grab a score of their own Caoimhe Molloy crossing for a try converted by Roberts, despite the loss it was a strong performance by Wicklow for the 80 minutes.

Railway Union (13T) 83-7 Galwegians (1T), Park Avenue

Railway Union put in a clinical performance to overcome Galwegians, crossing for 13 tries in the one sided contest in the capital.

Stephen Costello’s charges were ahead 43-7 at the break and showed very little complacency in adding a further 40 points in that second stanza. Wegians with a single converted try in the contest as Evanna Finn went over as Emma Keane converted.

Maddy Aberg and Alaïs Diebold crossed for hat trick’s in the win, Rhiann Heery and Lindsay Peat added braces, while Katie O’Dwyer, Niamh Byrne and Meabh Keegan also crossed the whitewash, Dani Franada was kept busy kicking nine conversions in the win.

UL Bohemian (4T) *28-0 Suttonians (0T)

UL Bohemian awarded a 28-0 bonus point win as Suttonians conceded the fixture, Sutts deducted five points as a result.
