AIL Roundup: Division 1A Week 15

Clontarf remain on top in division 1a with a comfortable victory over Shannon while Terenure College remain hot on their heels with their win over UCD. At the bottom, already relegated Garryowen remain adrift while Shannon and UCD look to battle it out to avoid the relegation playoff place following their defeats this week. 

Garryowen 21-29 Cork Constiution – Dooradoyle

Following a cagey opening, the visitors took the lead just before the half hour mark with a try by Billy Scannell that was improved by George Coomber.

On the stroke of half time, Billy Crowley touched down for another converted score to go into the interval 14-0 ahead.

Garryowen hit back with Jamie Shanahan’s converted score after half time before Cork’s advantage was retained through Jack Kelleher’s try.

Colm Quilligan gave Garryowen hope in what was a valiant performance with a late try but Niall Kenneally rounded off the win with a last gasp crossover to move the visitors up to third.

Lansdowne 10-15 Young Munster – Aviva Stadium Back Pitch

Lansdowne scored an early try after an early box kick was charged down but an Evan Cusack penalty reduced the deficit.

The visitors scored their first touchdown through Evan Cusack before they took the lead as Evan put Shay into a one on one and he beat his man to score in the corner.

Young Munster rode out some late Lansdowne pressure and move up to fourth.

Shannon 3-33 Clontarf – Thomond Park

The league leaders ran out comfortable away winners as they scored five tries through Ivan Soroka, Ben Murphy, Matty Darcy an Dylan Donnellan’s brace.

Mike Cooke’s penalty was all Shannon had to show for their efforts as they move dangerously down to ninth – three points off safety.

UCD 10-32 Terenure College – UCD Bowl

Mick Moloney’s penalty put UCD into an early lead before x Dooley levelled the scores.

Levi Vaughan crossed for the opening try for the visitors and after Ross Deegan was yellow carded, Craig Adams went over for their second.

The home side hit back with David Ryan’s score but Jordan Coghlan went over out wide and Vaughan crossed for his second before Colm de Buitlear sealed the win with a late score.

UCD drop to eighth while Terenure College are one points off leaders Clontarf. 

Ballynahinch 36-15 Dublin University

The home side ran out comfortable winners courtesy of tries through Bradley Luney, Conor McKee and Ethan Graham’s and Josh Hanlon’s braces.

Ballynahinch move up to fifth in mid-table while the students are one place below.
