AIL Roundup: Women’s Energia Cup Week 5

Railway Union regained top spot in the cup series as UL Bohs dropped to second despite both remaining unbeaten, Galwegians looked strong against Old Belvedere while Wicklow made it three wins in a row against Suttonians.

Blackrock College 11-43 UL Bohemian, Stradbrook

UL kept their unbeaten run alive in the cup with a strong bonus point win over Blackrock College, despite the win drop to third spot.

The Robins made use of their 19-3 lead at the break to drive on and kept the board ticking over into the second, limiting their opponents chances at getting scores.

Cooke 12-84 Railway Union, Shaw’s Bridge

Railway Union regained the lead at the top of the Energia Cup Series table after they ran riot against Cooke.

It was a tight opening half as Cooke took their chances but Railway also did and deservedly had the lead at the break, into the second they ran riot as Cooke were unable to register a score, Railways huge surplus on the board seeing them jump to top spot. 

Galwegians 29-10 Old Belvedere, Crowley Park

Galwegians picked up their second win of the cup with a bonus point result over struggling Old Belvedere.

Wegians were strong in the opening half leading 22-7 as tries from Orla Dixon and Laoise McGonagle and a pen from Nicole Fowley had them in front, into the second they remained on top and finished strong to jump to fifth.

Suttonians 10-43 Wicklow, JJ McDowell Memorial Gardens

Wicklow made it three wins in a row and with it are now third in the table after a comprehensive showing against Suttonians.

Wicklow will feel energised by the result as they now have a bit of momentum on their backs but the leaders have a sizeable gap ahead of them in the standings.
