AIL Preview: Women’s Division Round 11

The Women’s Division returns this weekend as UL Bohemian strive to remain unbeaten amidst a tough week for the club, Railway and Old Belvedere are two other top four teams in action this weekend.

Galwegians v UL Bohemian, Saturday February 10th, Crowley Park, 1pm

Leaders UL Bohemians return to Women’s Division action this weekend, they head to Galway for a matchup of the Cup Champions.

Wegians sit seventh in the Women’s Division and will hope to push on since that win in the Plate Final a few short weeks ago. Wegians have a mixed run of results over the last number of weeks, a walkover win over Belvedere and the cup success to boost their season hopes.

A dark cloud has been over UL Bohs this week mourning the loss of John Keane, a real stalwart of the club especially with the Women’s team. Bohs the Cup champions and unbeaten league leaders, will bring a threat once again, with no Celtic Challenge and a returning Ciara Griffin, Bohs will have a strong squad this weekend.

Suttonians v Ballincollig, Saturday February 10th, JJ McDowell Memorial Grounds, 3pm

Having not played in the cup campaign, Suttonians are back this weekend hoping to take the win over Ballincollig.

Cup campaign aise, Suttonians lost their last outing in the Division but were in strong shape beforehand. It has been a long wait but they are looking to cut the gap to Blackrock in fourth spot.

Ballincollig have suffered defeat in their last seven games and are not too far off fourth place but will need to return to winning ways this weekend. Sutts beat Ballincollig back in September in a narrow clash in Tanner Park, they will want to avenge that result this weekend.

Cooke v Railway Union, Saturday February 10th, Shaw’s Bridge, 5pm

The cup runners up will return to league action this weekend, Railway sitting in second place in the table hoping to keep on the pace of UL Bohs.

Cooke ended their losing run at the end of last year and came within a whisker of landing the Plate in the All Ireland Cup series in January. Certainly the rest of the year will be for them to grow and develop their programme in the club. Cooke lost 71-7 when the pair met back in September and this will be another tough task.

Railway with a weakened team due to International commitments gave the Cup a real run of it, in the end UL Bohs powered home and the Dubliners will aim to power their way for the Division title later this year. Runners up last season they are a contender and will be favoured to win this clash.

Wicklow v Old Belvedere, Saturday February 10th, Ashtown Lane, 5pm

Having not played a game since early December, Old Belvedere hope to return to winning ways against Wicklow this weekend.

Wicklow battled hard during the cup series to win one of two games, now they have to return to league action for the first time since December 2nd. Injuries saw Wicklow concede their last Division tie,
