Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 2C

Skerries are one of only three teams to be unbeaten this season, they lead the Engeria Mens All Ireland Division 2C, by a narrow two point advantage from Enniscorthy, both locked in a title battle, having both taken points this weekend.

Enniscorthy 35-22 Bruff, Alcast Park

Enniscorthy continued their push toward the division title, a bonus point win over Bruff making it a two point advantage for Skerries.

Both clubs exchanged tries early in the half, Arthur Dunne crossing for the hosts, before Bruff levelled minutes later. The Limerick club crossed again minutes later to make it a 12-7 game, before James Doyle crossed for a converted try to lead by two.

Ivan Poole added their third try before the half-time interval, making it 21-12 at the break. After the restart the visitors added another converted effort to reduce the gap, before Ivan Jacobs got the bonus point with a well worked try, Poole adding a monster conversion. Bruff landed a free to reduce the gap but David O’Dwyer hit another late on, their fifth of the afternoon. 

Omagh Academicals 18-8 Midleton, Thomas Mellon Playing Fields

Omagh added their third win of the season, having to come from behind to claim victory. The Ulstermen added the opening score after 25 minutes of play, Kyle Beattie landing a penalty to give them the lead.

Midleton responded well, kicking a penalty before adding an unconverted try to lead 8-3. Into the second half Omagh hit back to lead, getting a converted try to lead. The Ulstermen finished with a flurry a try and a penalty, giving them a ten point margain.

Skerries 41-0 City of Derry, Holmpatrick

Skerries remained unbeaten in Division 2C, an impressive 41-0 whitewash of Derry, the bonus point giving them a two point advantage at the foot of the table.

Having their bonus point by the start of the second half, they looked to be home by that stage, Evan Sherlock, Shane Murphy and a brace of tries by Cormac Marrey, had them 22-0 ahead. Paddy Finn added a fifth after the restart, the conversion making it 29-0.

Skerries added a sixth and seventh try before the final whistle, Ronan Mulcahy getting over before Chris Tonge added the seventh, and final score of the half.

Sundays Well 14-16 Bangor, Musgrave Park

A late Gareth Millar penalty gave Bangor their sixth win of the season, remaining in third spot by a narrow one point margain. The Ulstermen crossed early for a converted try to make it 7-0, before The Well replied with a penalty to narrow the margain.

Well landed another three pointer, before the visitors struck hard adding two penalties before the interval to leave it 13-6. The Cork club added a further penalty before crossing for an unconverted try, making it 14-13.

A nail biting conclusion as Millar got the winner, having struck the post minutes beforehand, a tough win for the Ulster club.

Tullamore 0-0 Clonmel, Spollanstown

The match between Tullamore and Clonmel was cancelled due to Covid 19, the second tie in a row that Clonmel have had cancelled due to a Covid outbreak.
