Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 1A

Going into the mid-season break, Clontarf regained their spot at the top of Division 1A, after a 17-0 away victory over Garryowen, but title rivals Lansdowne remain hot on their heels after their win.

Things have gone from bad to worse for bottom side Ballynahinch who remain winless through nine rounds.

Garryowen 0-17 Clontarf, Dooradoyle:

The league leaders cruised to a shutout win, courtesy of tries from Cormac Daly, Tadhg Bird and Max Kearney.

After a strong start to the season, a poor run of form leaves Garryowen in seventh on 21 points, whilst the table toppers are on 37 points.

Ballynahinch 10-24 Lansdowne, Ballymacarn Park:

The bottom side’s miserable campaign continues as it is now nine straight defeats for Ballynahinch, courtesy of title pushing Lansdowne’s scores through Clive Ross, Michael Silvester, and Jamie Kavanagh.

Ballynahinch are 10th with just four points, whilst Lansdowne are just two points off top spot with 35 points.

Cork Constitution 12-16 Terenure College, Temple Hill:

The visitors managed to sneak an away win in a closely fought contest courtesy of Luke Clohessy’s try and 11 points from the boot of Jake Swaine.

Cork Constitution lies in fourth with 27 points, whilst Terenure College sit one place below in fifth with 26 points.

Dublin University 48-8 UCC, College Park:

The home side cruised to an easy win, thrashing their opponent’s courtesy of tries from Hugh Twomey, Lee Barron, Marcus Kiely, Alan Francis, Michael O’Kennedy and Aaron Coleman.

Dublin University move up to sixth with 23 points, whilst UCC remain in ninth with just five points.

UCD 12-18 Young Munster, Belfield:

The visitors secured a vital win away from home through Clan Casey and Alan Kennedy’s scores, aided by eight points from the boot of Evan Cusack.

UCD are in eighth with 11 points, whilst Young Munster are up to third with 29 points.
