Preview: Division 1A Semi Finals

With a spot in the decider at the Aviva Stadium next weekend up for grabs, which two teams can punch their ticket for the decider. Cork Con meet Clontarf in the first semi-final at 2:30pm, the second will see Terenure College host Lansdowne at 4:30pm.

Cork Constitution v Clontarf, Saturday April 18th, Temple Hill, 2:30pm

Last seasons runners up Clontarf travel to Leeside to meet a Cork Con side looking to punch a ticket to the decider for the first time since the 2018-19 season with this game serving as a rematch of that year’s final.

Con finished second place this year but could well have finished as top seed had results gone in their favour at the latter stages of the season. When the pair met in Temple Hill earlier this year Con claimed the win and will be hoping to do so once more to end their wait for a final appearance.

Having finished runners up last year Clontarf are hoping to make it four final appearances in a row of those finals played due to the Covid cancellations. Tarf set the ground running but did suffer four defeats this season, two of which occurred in their last five games.

Terenure College v Lansdowne, Saturday April 18th, Lakelands, 4:30pm

A massive Dublin derby at Lakelands has the current holders Terenure looking to defend their crown as they welcome three time winners Lansdowne for the second semi final of the afternoon.

Nure may have started slow but are 12 games unbeaten in 1A and have some serious momentum in their favour going into this contest. Bateman Cup winners also this year they are looking for the double and have the talent at their disposal to make that happen.

Lansdowne had to grind out the results in the final weeks to ensure they would finish fourth in this year’s competition as they won their final two games to pip Ballynahinch to the post. It has been a long wait for Lansdowne to make a decider, since their win in the 2017/18 season they have yet to contest a final, could this be their year?, to do so they must defeat Terenure which they haven’t managed to do since October 2021.
