Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 2B

It’s a huge weekend in Division 2B of the AIL. Greystones will be looking to bounce back after their defeat to Belfast Harlequins, while second placed Galway Corinthians meet third placed Wanderers.

Malahide will be looking to make it four wins in a row after a fantastic run of form since Christmas.

Malahide v Dungannon, Saturday 26th February, Estuary Road, 2:30pm.

A win for Dungannon is vital this weekend if they have promotion in their plans. The Ulster side held Galway Corinthians to a 29-29 draw last week in a thrilling match at Stevenson Park. Meanwhile for Malahide, they extended their winning run to three games after narrowly beating Galwegians at Crowley Park. When the sides met in the reverse fixture back in November, it was Dungannon who emerged as winners with a 26-12 victory.

Galway Corinthians v Wanderers, Saturday 26th February, Corinthian Park, 2:30pm.

It’s a massive game for both sides who have promotion in their sights as second placed Corinthians will look to bounce back to form after failing to win in their previous two games. Corinthians were held to a frustrating draw against Dungannon last week, while Wanderers earned a bonus point win over Ballina. Galway Corinthians sit just one point ahead of The Chaps in the standings. It was Galway Corinthians who won the last time the sides met in a big 41-3 victory at Merrion Road.

Blackrock College v Greystones, Saturday 26th February, Stradbrook, 2:30pm.

Rock is sitting in fifth place in the table but do have a game in hand over their rivals as their game against Sligo last week was postponed. Meanwhile for Greystones, the league leaders will be eager to bounce back from last week’s disappointing defeat to Belfast Harlequins. A win for the Stardbrook outfit will lift them into the top four and as they have a game in hand, it will put them in a great position heading into the final stages of the season.

Belfast Harlequins v Galwegians, Saturday 26th February, Deramore Park, 2:30pm.

Quins will be eager to continue their rich vein of form as they host basement club Galwegians this weekend. Wegians are yet to win a game since matchday one. The home side defeated Greystones 24-14 at Dr. Hickey Park last time out and will be confident ahead of the game this weekend. Galwegians came close to a win over Belfast Harlequins when the sides last met in November, but the Ulster side grinded out a 16-14 win at Crowley Park.

Ballina v Sligo, Saturday 26th February, Heffernan Park, 2:30pm.

Sligo know that a win this weekend is vital if they are to remain in the running for a top four place. Their game against Blackrock College last week was postponed but did fall to a defeat the week before against Belfast Harlequins. The Mayo club have lost four games on the bounce and are without a victory since before Christmas. Ballina fell to a 36-20 defeat against Galway Corinthians .
