Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 2B

It’s another big weekend in Division 2B of the Energia All Ireland League. Greystones will be eager to get back to winning ways after two defeats in a row while Malahide will be keen to make it five wins a row against Wanderers this weekend. There’s also a huge clash between two promotion hopefuls with Belfast Harlequins hosting Blackrock College.

Belfast Harlequins v Blackrock College, Saturday 5th March, Deramore Park,2:30pm

Both sides are heading into the game knowing that a win will be vital in their quests for promotion. Quins beat Galwegians 18-8 last weekend while Blackrock College shocked league leaders Greystones, with a 21-17 win at Stradbrook. The hosts are sitting in third position just two points ahead of Blackrock who have a game in hand over the rest of the top four.

Galwegians v Dungannon, Saturday 5th March, Crowley Park, 2:30pm.

Wegians are sitting bottom of the table and are without a win since matchday one. Thankfully for them, Dungannon have also been in very poor form of late and fell to a 17-7 defeat at the hands of Malahide last weekend. Despite their poor form, the Ulster side can leapfrog Sligo into sixth place should Sligo fail to win their game this weekend.

Greystones v Ballina, Saturday 5th March, Dr.Hickey Park, 2:30pm

Stones are coming into the game off the back of two defeats in a row and for the first time all season, some questions are beginning to be asked of Paul Lennon’s side. The league leaders still sit seven points clear of the rest of the field at the top of the table but will need to bounce back to form and pick up momentum heading into the final stages of the season. Ballina defeated Sligo 25-15 in a Connacht derby last week, but they remain in ninth position.

Sligo v Galway Corinthians, Saturday 5th March, Hamilton Park, 2:30pm.

The Hamilton Park outfit face a huge test this weekend and after three games without a win, Sligo will be keener than ever to make a late charge for the top four. Meanwhile for Galway Corinthians, they sit in second place after a 20-19 victory over Wanderers last weekend. Corinthians are four points ahead of The Chaps in the table but will need another win this weekend if they are to cement their place in the top 4.

Wanderers v Malahide, Saturday 5th March, Merrion Road, 2:30pm

Wanderers will look to get back to winning ways after a narrow defeat against Galway Corinthians last week. The promotion chasers are sitting just one point outside the all important top 4 but face a tough task this weekend, against the in-form Malahide. The North Dublin side have won four games in a row after defeating, Dungannon, Galway Corinthians, Galwegians and Ballina in the last month
