Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 1A

Round 10 of the Energia All-Ireland Division 1A gets underway on Saturday afternoon, with all five games taking place at 2:30pm.

Clontarf head into the weekend at the top of the table, winning eight of their first nine games. Lansdowne find themselves two points behind the league leaders ahead of their match with bottom of the table Ballynahinch.

Clontarf v Garryowen, Castle Avenue- Referee: Jonny Erskine

First place Clontarf host seventh place Garryowen at Castle Avenue, who have endured an inconsistent season so far, winning four of their first nine matches and losing five.

Clontarf remain on top of Division 1A with 37 points and boast an impressive defence, conceding just 116 points all season.

Lansdowne v Ballynahinch, Aviva Stadium-  Referee: Kieran Barry

Winless Ballynahinch face a tough test against Lansdowne, who have picked up seven bonus point victories in their first nine games.

Ballynahinch have picked up just four points all season and have scored the fewest points of any team in Division 1A. While Lansdowne boast the best attack in the league with 254 points in nine games.

Terenure College v Cork Constitution, Lakelands Park-  Ref: Stuart Gaffikin

Fourth faces fifth in Division 1A as Terenure College host Cork Constitution at Lakelands Park. Cork Constitution head into this match eight points behind Clontarf in first.

Terenure College can jump into third place if results go their way on Saturday afternoon. They will leapfrog their opponents with a win and will overtake Young Munster should they lose to UCD.

UCC vs Dublin University, The Mardyke-  Ref: George Clancy

Struggling UCC will look to kick off 2022 with a strong performance and rebound from a difficult 2021 as they face Dublin University at home.

UCC won just one game from their opening nine and find themselves with a mere five points. Dublin University have fared better, winning five of their opening games but have struggled to find consistency.

Young Munster vs UCD, Tom Clifford Park- Ref: Nigel Correll

UCD have endured a difficult start to the season, winning just two games and find themselves in eighth place with 11 points.

Young Munster find themselves in third and six points behind Lansdowne in second, earning a respectable 29 points from their opening nine games.
