AIL Roundup: Division 2B Week 4

Greystones have put some distance between them and the rest of 2B with victory over Belfast Harlequins, while Dungannon leapfrog Harlequins into second.

Enniscorthy 12-32 Dungannon, Alcast Park

Dungannon climbed to second in the table after a strong second half performance saw inflict further defeat on Enniscorthy as they dropped to bottom of the table.

Scorthy did own the opening half as Nick DOyle crossed early for the opening try, Ben Kidd would add a second try, but a penalty and a try just before the half left the score 12-8 in favour of the hosts.

The visitors controlled the game after the restart, with Scorthy having little in the way of reply as they kept the scoreboard ticking over in their favour for the remainder of the second half.

Galwegians 29-29 Sligo, Crowley Park

For the second week in a row Sligo were pipped at the death to see them leave with a share of the spoils as Galwegians crossed for a late try.

Wegians added an early penalty before Jakub ‘Kuba’ Wojtkowicz crossed to make it 5-3, Andrew Sherlock restored the Wegians lead after Sligo went down to 14, 10-5 after 37 minutes. One final twist to the half as Donnacha Byrne added a late converted try for a 12-10 lead.

Sligo looked to build momentum after the restart with Wojtkowicz over for his second, before Matthew Earley added a bonus point try after 50 minutes, 22-10 on the scoreboard. Dylan Keane reduced the arrears to 22-15, but back came Sligo Hubert Gilvarry under the posts to make it 29-15 on the hour mark.

The ending was dramatic as the entire game proved to be, their first try came after 68 minutes to rescue the gap to 29-22, with a try between them they added the pressure and eventually Sligo cracked, Wegians under the posts after 78 minutes to tie the contest.

Greystones 14-0 Belfast Harlequins, Dr Hickey Park

Greystones edge the top the table tie with Belfast Harlequins as they remain unbeaten in the division.

The wicklow outfit with a try in each half as Matt O’Brien and Nick Doyle both crossed the whitewash to continue their unbeaten streak.

Rainey Old Boys 19-0 Malahide, Hattrick Park

Rainey Old Boy wrapped up their meeting with Malahide in the opening half, as they got the business done early to get a second win of the season.

Cormac Devlin, Andrew Donaghy and Daniel O’Neill all got over to give Rainey the points, Donaghy scoring despite his chosen footwear being joked about by his club’s social media channels.

Wanderers 35-31 Galway Corinthians, Merrion Road

Wanderers climbed to sixth in the table, as they recorded a nail biting win against Galway Corinthians who hung onto fourth spot. The hosts were quick to lead after a converted try saw them 7-0 to the good early on.

They powered over for a second to double their lead minutes later, as the Galway side were unable to come up with an answer. The third came from Ben Mahon as a whitewash looked on the cards, Wanders leading 21-0. 

By the half hour mark the bonus point was wrapped up, another perfect conversion adding the extra points. Corinthians got one back late in the half, but a try just before the break saw Wanderers lead 35-5.adding a bonus point of their own with 15 minutes left on the clock, 35-24 in favour of the hosts.

After their second yellow of the tie, Corinthians brought the score to 35-31 with five left on the clock, the pressure was on for Wanderers but they hung on for the win.
