AIL Roundup: Division 2B Week 16

Greystones are 2B Champions after a strong win over Galway Corinthians, at the bottom the relegation battle will be between Enniscorthy and Galwegians as the rest are mathematically safe.

Enniscorthy (2T) 17-10 (1T) Malahide, Alcast Park

Enniscorthy jumped off the bottom spot with a strong win over Malahide needing a strong second half to ensure the result, but automatic safety is no longer an option.

Malahide added an early penalty before Tom Ryan got the game off to a flying start with a try for the hosts, Ben Kidd converted for a 7-3 lead but minutes later Malahide added seven of their own and we headed for the break with Malahide ahead 10-7.

Into the second half Daniel Pim crossed for the second Scorthy try, Kidd converted and would add three more valuable points to ensure Malahide did not take points from the Wexford side as they hope to stay up.

Galwegians (2T) 12-31 (4T) Belfast Harlequins, Crowley Park

Harlequins were bonus point winners over Wegians, the result putting them fourth in the table and Wegians slumping to bottom place.

Paul Kerr was the main man for Harlequins early on, he landed a monster penalty before crossing and then converting a try for a 10-7 lead, their rolling maul did the damage to cross for a second try as they went in ahead 17-0 at the break.

Darragh Kennedy got Galwegians on the board five minutes into the second half, but after fluffing a dropout minutes later in went the Belfast side for a third try, the half wore on and with ten to go Wegians had a penalty try to make it a 12 point game, but late on Cameron Doak secured the bonus point win.

Greystones (3T) 24-19 (3T) Galway Corinthians, Dr Hickey Park

Greystones claimed the league title after a scary second half almost saw them suffer defeat.

The first half was all Greystones, they added two quick converted tries before a penalty moved them 17-0 ahead, they added a third try but back came Corinthians as Max Holmes and Harry Rogers both added tries to make it 24-12 at the break.

Stones dug deep in the second half Peter Rainsford added a third try for the visitors but despite that score time was on their side as they claimed the title they feel they lost last season.

Rainey Old Boys (2T) 17-20 (3T) Sligo, Hatrick Park

Sligo are up to sixth after they secured a big win on the road in Ulster at the weekend.

Rainey would lead early with a penalty but Kuba Wojtkowicz added an early try for the visitors with Euan Brown converting for a 7-3 lead at the break.

Sligo controlled the early stages of the second half, Euan Brown adding three from his boot before Ryan Feehilly added a second try, Rainey managed a try of their own minutes later but another Feehily try kept Sligo ahead, despite another effort from the hosts the Sligo men kept their nerve to see out the remaining minutes.

Wanderers (2T) 17-26 (2T) Dungannon, Merrion Road

Dungannon stayed third as Wanderers slipped down the table after they finished strong to take points in the capital.

Ben McCaughey kicked an early penalty to put Dungannon ahead but Wanderers sniped a converted try to lead by four, but McCaughey added another pen before the break to make it a one point tie.

McCaughey added another penalty for the first score in the second half as the elements were causing a hassle, he added another penalty in the 67th minute as the Ulstermen had a five point lead, Wanderers made it a nervy final ten minutes as they struck three from the tee to make it a two point game on 70.

Then came the knockout blow as a penalty try was followed up by Glenn Sinnamon getting in for Dungannon as they moved 26-10 clear, Wanderers added a consolation try but the visitors had enough in the tackle to claim the win.
