AIL Roundup: Division 2A Week 9

Just the one game survived the weather elements at the weekend in 2A, as Old Crescent climb to sixth thanks to a late Ronan McKenna try.

Dolphin 28-31 Old Crescent, Musgrave Park

A late Ronan McKenna try ensured that Old Crescent would move up to sixth place in the table as they narrowly beat Munster rivals Dolphin.

Dolphin drew first blood after 11 minutes with Cam O’Shaughnessy getting over for the opening try, with Tomas Quinlan converting for a 7-0 lead. It took until the 34th minute for a reply from Crescent, only the second score of the contest as Cathal O’Reilly scored their opening try with McKenna landing the conversion. Almost on the brink of half time Dave O’Mahony added their second try with Quinlan adding the extras for a 14-7 halftime lead.

It was the Limerick side who started the second half much the better, Jason Aylward crossed for their second try but McKenna failed to convert three minutes into the half, instead McKenna would put his side ahead in the 51st minute as his conversion saw his side ahead 19-14.

Dolphin would hit back just three minutes later Eamon Mils with their third try of the contest Quinlan not missing from the tee, the lead did not last long as Crescent secured the bonus point try with Joe Rickard powering over.

It was a nervy end to the game, drama on show when Mills got his second try of the game giving Dolphin a bonus point, it would have been a strong win for them but McKenna had the final say with the deciding score late on.
